2nd uni in 18 months 42 yo
« on: March 19, 2011, 01:19:56 PM »
hey guys yall really helped me out 18 months ago, with advise on the right knee. Had a MAKOplasty, where they do the uni with aide of a robot for precise placement of the hardware. Anyway while recoperating from that prob a month out i was walking outside and stepped into a deep house protecting my right knee totally screwed the left one. Got another osteochondral impaction fx OS said uni period the space at that time was like 4mm, i just couldnt bare the thoughts of going through that surgery again, so i just delt with the pain, but it was getting worse and worseit started affecting my job and my everyday life, no stairs no squatting etc. So i went bk to the OS the spaceing was down to 0.8mm, he was like u have to get this done its only gonna get worse, so i am biting the bulllet and doin it on April 6. My OS is the best he is chief orth surgeon at wake forrest unniversity baptist hosp in north carolina. So i trust him but dang i am dreading the recovery. Could someone give me advise on anesthesia choices? yest at preop, the anesthesiologist said they prefer to use spinal block with some iv meds that make u into a "light nap" said i would prob hear voices of the dr nurses in the or, he said the OS likes it cus the muscles are very relaxed. Im thinking HECK no. I dont want to know anything. If any of u guys had the spinal could u please share ur experiance with me? Thank u so much...Michele

I've never had a spinal block for knee surgeries.  I wonder, though, will you remember what you are hearing the docs / nurses say.  Won't you be soooooooooo relaxed you"ll just be there?  That would be my question.  I guess with enough zanax, pain meds then spinal block your thought won't be clear so that might be a good thing!  Good luck, eagle

I had a spinal when i had my unicompartmental knee replacement and got along very well. I wouldn't do it any other way! It's coming up on five years next month and though everything went well then,...I have a loose inplant so might be looking at a total knee replacement in the near future. I hope that all goes well with you and your surgery. You're so young to be doing this again! ;)

Shoot i dont wanna hear anything, I had general anesth. last time. I guess im only thinkin bout s.block cuz they r saying pain manag. is easier and its easier for the surgeon. I know its comin up quick though, trying to get the house in order and the dates just keep clickin off. Oh well ill keep yall updated. Thanks again, later....
