Tim Spalding in the Midlands does meniscus transplants and has an NHS practice - however, whether he does the transplants on the NHS, I don't know.  I think someone here (mrpenguin maybe?) had a meniscus transplant and MACI done by him last year but I have an inkling it was done privately.  The NHS isn't too good at paying for 'experimental' procedures (that said, private HC companies are pretty good at digging their heels in too).

Look at the NICE guidelines website - has a decent search engine - and perhaps contact Mr Spalding's secretary
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
Partial meniscectomy, mfx not needed - smooth scar tissue over OC lesion, shaving of lateral aspect of patella - grade III defect
2nd scope on 16/12/10, chondroplasty & Durolane jab
Cartilage damage on femur & tibia
Knee being ignored ;-)

Hey chewymix how old are you right now? I heard that age is a big factor in how fast things heal after surgery.

not checked in here for a while so thought i'd update - since the scope in March i was in a ton of pain but i just roughed it out and summer time was pretty much OK. I was symptomatic daily but it did not interfere with life in general, although i cant do sports as such. Swelling is gone and i have good ROM however the clicking on stairs has returned and since these last 3 weeks my pain levels have significantly increased. I have a feeling my remaining meniscus is torn again and breaking down.

I saw Ian at 6 weeks post OP and he told me to give it time and see how i go and if i was not happy then go back to see him as he feels that i would be an ideal candidate for a meniscus transplant. I cant have actifit as i have too much loss of the meniscus. I am 36 and generally heal pretty fast for most things which makes me think that if i want to get 'better' then i need a transplant.
