Good luck Robin....sorry for being AWOL...had a friend here over the weekend but I've gone down with the lurgy....no voice to speak of, it is peaceful for Mr Lottie at the moment in the household...hacking cough....feel rough. Had to cancel an appointment in Bristol today and therefore also missed out on a Brama catch up en route home and collecting my drawing from Midi-Brams. Boo. Meant to be in Norfolk for an assessment on Weds, can't see me driving 140 miles tomorrow to do that one... :'(

Will be back when I am feeling more Lottie-like - I need to go to the GYM - boo! Hate being ill!!

Hugs all xxx

Mother nature must be in one heck of a bad mood!  It is too cold for the end of April!  I am really craving palm trees and sand!

Well, I got 30 minutes punched on my stationary bike today.  My knee was starting to get a bit grumpy, even with no resistance.  I figured that seeing it has been awhile that maybe I should listen to my knee and start slowly.  I must say, I was spinning fast enough to work up a sweat, and I got my heart rate up to a nice fat burning level.  I might see how the next few hours go, and I may do another 30 minutes tonight.  Murphy's law though....the phone rang three times when I was doing the bike, and it hasn't rung since.  My legs were a bit wobbly when I got off..lol!  I am SO deconditioned!

Snowy, I cannot wait to see your goggle tan...and pics of Mount Baker.  How near Mount St. Helene is Mount Baker?

Well, I must go and make my way down to the basement to do some laundry.  That is my most dreaded activity at the moment...but it has to be done!

Later gang!  I hope everyone is having a good day!

Hey Everyone,

Shucks.  Thanks for all the well wishes!

W...Good job on the stationary bike.   ;D That's awesome that you could do 30 minutes.  If I were you, I'd probably wait until tomorrow to do another 30 minutes.  When I first started on the SB, I'd increase it in tiny increments and even with that, there were days that the pain waited a day to sneak up on me.  Wobbly legs are good and means that you used them!

Brams...Sorry 'bout your shoulder.  Good God.  What next, huh?  I hope it has since settled down a bit.

Lottie...Get well soon woman!  Glad to see that you aren't pushing yourself.  Be sure to get to bed early tonight.

Snowy...WTF?  You're a wicked adrenaline junkie, huh?  Congrats just the same but better you than me.;)

Just got home from my orthopedic visit and surprisingly, the good doctor didn't believe in the cortisone injections.  He said that they'd work temporarily.  So we talked about options and he said time would heal all frozen shoulders.  This I knew.  What I didn't know is that he told me there is a nasal type of narcotic that was used in the UK for something else...can't remember what it was....and although the spray proved a failure for it's intended use, it was successful at treating frozen shoulders.  I'm stunned.  I didn't ask the name of the medication so I'm not sure what it is but I couldn't find much about it on Google.  I can't pick it up until later tonight so I'll fill in the details later.  Snowy!  I thought of your coworker with the frozen shoulder.  Anyway, I'll be back later with more news.  I'm kinda excited!  Wow.  Just imagine if I can play frisbee again this summer?!

Hugs and thanks to everyone!  Robin

Tez...Hey thanks to you as well!  Glad that you are having an awesome day.  You deserve it. ;D

Robin - thanks for thinking of our friend! If you can let me know what the spray is, I'll pass the message along. She would love anything that made a difference at this point.

The volcano was Mount Baker, which is part of the Cascade "ring of fire." It's the second most active volcano in the chain, after Mount St. Helen's. We climbed from Glacier Creek up and over Heliotrope Ridge to the Coleman Glacier, then continued upward for about an hour on the glacier before skiing down the northwest flank of the mountain. The total climb was about 5,000 vertical feet, most of it straight up a steep drainage to the ridge - I think it's safe to say that that was the most strenuous day of my life (and I do not say that lightly). The climb was awesomely challenging and the descent amazing; the top of the climb was in whiteout cloud, but we skied out of it almost immediately and were rewarded with incredible views of the immense glacier dropping away in front of us, a huge icefall far to the right, and the peak of Mount Baker framed briefly against the sky above. Amazing!!! There was some interesting skiing through dense trees after we came off the glacier (with really rotten, crusty snow full of twigs and leaves) and then a fun ski out down the snow covered road to the car. Definitely a ski day to remember.

I will try and check in more regularly, I promise...I am following all of your adventures, but work has been busy and my time online a bit limited recently. Always thinking of my fellow geeks, though. :)

Hey Everyone,

Snowy...The name of the 'script is called Calcitonin.  It's actually not a narcotic (darn!)  but it's intended use was for treating osteoporosis in post menopausal women.  I have no idea how they ended up using it to treat frozen shoulders or why but apparently it takes the pain away.  It does not help with the range of motion however.  The small case study I read about it said it helped about 50% of the time in 2-3 weeks.  So we shall see.  It's better than nothing!  I'll keep you posted.  Your volcanic adventure does sound amazing.  You are scaling volcanos and I'm happy that the hubby has taken me out to dinner.  Hum.  Somewhere along the line I got old(er) and boring.  I really do need to leave my comfort zone every now and then.  Maybe today I shall get a large coffee instead of a medium!  HA! ;)

Rk...Awesome news on your upcoming appointment.  I'm keeping all fingers and body parts crossed for you that the good doctor will finally find something that will give you some relief.

Chat soon everyone else!  Lottie...Hope that you are feeling better today!

Yup...Rk4, it is time for some answers.  Just a week now!

Robin...I am SO glad that I didn't do the second 30 minute session on the bike.  I could feel that d*** medial knee pain as soon as I got up this morning, and had to be on the trot with my mother all day today.  We shall see what tomorrow brings!  So, you have to wait 2-3 weeks to see if the calcitonin is going to work?  I hope it does.

Lottie...I hope you are feeling better today!

Brams...How are the knee incident has resolved!

Snowy...Red Green would be proud of your new use of duct tape...lol!  Did you know that you can now buy it in different colours??

Tez...I do think that retail therapy is your favourite type of therapy.  Too bad it doesn't work for rehab purposes..lol!  We would all be laughing..lol!

Nick..I hope things are going well.  Your Mom's new car is nice, and I am sure you will enjoy driving it!

A....Haven't forgotten about ya!

Super....How's it going?

Well, my 96 year old grandfather died this morning.  You can't be sad about someone living that long, and only being sick for less than a week!  My mom is really tired, so I decided to drive today.  She was so sleep deprived from being called back to the hospital twice last night, that I didn't want her driving.  I was helping her throw things out in my grandfather's room today.  We weren't there very long, and we already have three garbage bags full of stuff.  He had more personal hygiene products than any woman I know.  4 bars of soap on the go, God knows how many half full bottles of shampoo..and on and on!  I guess we will be back at it tomorrow.

All of this activity is not boding well on my knee, and I didn't really do that much.  This is going to have to be a suck it up buttercup week.  I can't let mom do all of this!  Oh well, I'll live!  You never know, I might be better off from the activity a week from now...we shall see!

Well, I think I might go get a cup of tea!

W so sorry to hear about your Grandfather, even though it sounds like he had a full and long life its still sad when someone goes, your a good daughter being there for your poor Mum and helping her with all the stuff that needs done when someone dies, just remember to take care of yourself and the knee.

Robin I have my fingers and toes crossed that this new medication helps with the shoulder pain, it must be difficult massaging folk with two dodgy shoulders, even though this stiff might not help the range of motion at least being pain free should give them a chance to recover properly.

Lottie poor you from the sound of your FB posts your still fighting the lurgy, duvet days and lots of fluids are the best way to help you feel better, I hope you feel better soon.

Snowy skiing down a volcano now!!!!! you are indeed living up to your name of danger Kay, from the sound of things you are squeezing every last bit of skiing out of this season. good for you.....

RK4 just a week to go to find out the fate of the twins I also have all extremities crossed for you that your OS has a plan to get you sorted and pain free asap.
I really hope all the farm worries improve soon, as for the family worries unfortunately once you have kids no matter how well they're doing you spend all your time worrying about every aspect of their life [or is that just me ::)]

Brams how are things with you did you manage to row at the weekend? I remember reading you have been having some problems with the good knee along with the ongoing problem with the bad knee, fingers crossed for you too that everything settles down and allows you to continue to row every week.

This is my first stupid o'clock post for a while, this is self inflicted and is down to my love of retail therapy, a full day shopping with my sister yesterday and another with my daughter today does not make for a happy knee, but I had such a good time, I even managed a wee trip down the coast with the hood down in the car today which was fab, unfortunately  back  to work tomorrow though how I am going to cut anyone's hair with every finger I have crossed for my lovely geek friends I aint too sure ;D
Anyway this time next week I will be on my way to Amsterdam, and I am really looking forward to that, I have never been so it will be something new for me to enjoy.

I hope everyone else is doing ok these days, Nick from the sound of things your still not having a good time at work, I really hope you come up with a solution to sort everything out soon, it must be horrible going to a job you hate every day.

Take care Tez

Thanks Tez!

We must be a very busy gang this week!  I keep checking in when I get a chance....but alas, no action!  Must keep thread going!

I am trying the monumental task of trying to clean my house!  I have been kind of putting it off all week, but company arriving tomorrow.  My cousin is staying here, and he is a neat freak!  Me...not so much!  Anyway, I am in crisis mode here now, and I have been on the go all day.  I have to do it!  I just might be on the disabled list by Saturday if I keep this pace up.  The knee is actually handling this better than I thought it would.  Maybe I really am turning the proverbial corner...I hope!

I did have some very good news today.  They FINALLY approved my long term disability claim.  This is a month after they told me that they would have a decision in 3 days.  Yeah, right!  You have to love insurance companies.  You pay premiums that are quite high for LTD.  You hope that you never have to use it.  When you do need it, they take their time and try to starve you back to work.  They have to back pay me to March 3rd.  It will be nice to finally get it.

Well, that was my break.  I was really hoping that Snowy was going to come help me, but there weren't any good seat sales...lol!

Hi all!

Yes, sorry, am one of the throng who have been AWOL being busyish. Lol. Can't claim to have been frantically busy  ;) but have been trying to get myself organised with this new tutoring thing of mine. The amount of bits and bobs you have to get sorted, apply for, order, dig out of boxes and get frames for, think about, plan for, order a bit more, etc etc etc is completely off the chart! Never having done this before, I am going a little bit more insane every day as some new thing suddenly occurs to me and I have to write it down on my growing list and do something with it.... ;D :o

Yesterday I joined a health club near me in a very nice hotel. It has a lovely little warm pool, jacuzzi thing on the side, sauna, nice clean little gym, and best of all (if only I had the money) a little beauty therapy and massage business. It's all clean and small, which suits me perfectly... In a minute I'm off to have me a one-to-one gym induction with some cute young thing there (hold it all in girl... :o), which I am ridiculously nervous about, never having had one! He is going to work me out a set of exercises I can do to strengthen my core (ooh er) and allow my poor flabby wasted legs to do something useful.... Then I am planning to go and lounge in the pool and attempt some gentle swimming - no breast stroke with the legs though, I promise. I am sure the urge will come upon me to sit in the jacuzzi for a bit, and then I shall shower, change, go home and scoff a nice slab of shepherds pie from last night that is in the fridge calling to me... ;D

When I get back I will post properly, but in the meantime wish me luck guys!

Hugs to all x

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd pop in so say hello and tell all to have a good weekend.

W...I'm so sorry about your grandfather.  96 is a nice age to go I think, providing one is still making some sense when talking and is able to get around.  Sorry your knee has been rebelling against you through all of this.  Be sure to take good care of yourself and not run yourself around too much.  WTG with the long term disability!  You must be so relieved.  You don't need anymore headaches right now.

Brams...Hey, good to hear from you.  How did I miss you talking about the tutoring thing?  Good luck with that even though I'm not quite sure what it is you will be doing. ;)  You are too funny talking about getting ready to see the personal trainer.  I hope it went well and you were able to hold it all in. :o  Working one on one with someone is great motivation.  I'll be interested to read how you made out.

Tez...Hey!  I feel like you haven't posted in a long time.  Maybe I just miss hearing from you.  I'm sorry that your knee rebelled as well but at least you had some fun!  You are going to Amsterdam?!  That's awesome Tez.  I'm jealous. I hope that you have a wonderful time and see all sorts of fun and exciting things.  Will you stop into any hash bars while there? ;)  Just curious as all.  Have a great weekend and get ready for your trip!

Rk...Just a few more days for you before the big day.  My fingers are still crossed for you. ;D

Snowy...I just love the tinycat pics.  I can't believe how tiny they are!  I wish I could take them all.

Lottie...I see that you are back to the gym which means that you must be feeling much better.  Yay.  Just in time for the weekend, girlie!~

Nick...Hi!  Hope that you have a nice weekend.

A...Hope that we hear from you soon.

I did a 30 mile bike ride this morning to celebrate my knees 5 month anniversary.  It was awesome. I didn't break any speed records but that's just fine with me.  I had no pain whatsoever in my knee and my cardio is nearly back to where it was prior to surgery.  Yay!  I'm so happy that I had the operation.  I know in my diary I voiced doubts at times but I'm 100% happy with it.  I hope everyone on this board can say this sooner rather than later.!!!!  Well, my books for my personal training course arrived a few days ago so I suppose I should go crack them again.  I'm beginning with anatomy and physiology.  It's a good review for I can't believe how much I've forgotten. Be well all and chat soon.

Hugs, Robin xx
