Yay!! Wonderful news!! I am SO glad you liked it!!! Remember - even if the knees flare up a bit, doing something like this is FAB for the crips as it tells the knees to be knees again. Kind of like all the horrible stuff I do to Reggie that eventually means he starts to behave a bit better! I want to row now. This is a daft question - do you wear a life jacket? I detest water and if I fell in I would drown for sure. But I'd love to have a go at rowing! (and all those fit blokes to perv over would brighten my weekend mornings - we have plenty of clubs near me!)

Well done Brams, I am dead pleased for you!

I heartily recommend it Lottie! (So far, anyway  ;D)

We didn't wear a life jacket. We could if we wanted, but TBH the boats are pretty stable (the beginners ones, anyway lol). The cox wore one, obviously, but none of us beginners did. The boat carried an emergency pack, and everything was pretty well controlled. I never felt in any kind of danger of tipping.

One evening last week when we went down, the crews from Bristol Uni Rowing Club were there using the club......you would have drooled.  :o One good thing about rowing, no-one seems to end up getting larger! The whole lot of them were lithe, rangy, fit, muscled and well, fit. Very, very fit. An awful lot of them seemed to be darned good looking as well. And I thought, that'll do me.  ;)

Just choose your club well. It's not about snazzy equipment or a swanky clubhouse. The club I went to is on its last legs really, they are building a new one soon. The clubhouse is small and a bit grubby. BUT the people are great, warm and friendly, all the boats are in fantastic condition and well looked-after, and they are very hot on safety and making sure everyone is watched and coached. I'd trade that for a water machine and a new carpet any day!!!

Got to go, the family is here for tea!

Hiya lovely people

Brams way to go with the rowing it really sounds like you have had a brilliant day, fingers crossed you don't have any ill effects from it, and if things do feel a bit off for a while its just down to using different muscles etc and nothing else, I'm so pleased for you!!!!

RK good news that the OS is sending you for an MRI, lets hope its the start of getting things sorted for you,  do they have an emergency list or a cancellation list for the MRI? if there is could you ask about getting on to one of them?
Also with the whole pain meds thing W is right about the tramacet I take tramadol with is the same thing without the paracetamol I think, and I feel it really helps, its worth a shot....

W how were the pancakes? you have a lovely dad to bring you syrup for them :)
how is everything else going with you? any improvment with the knee at all?
As for your Grandad he sounds like quite the character, its great he is still fit enough to want to chat up the ladies.

Robin I hope you have had a good weekend and the knee and shoulders have been kind to you :)

My news is I have bought a car  ;D ;D well I have put the deposit on it and I will collect it next Sunday so that it can be serviced and valeted, its the black 307 I had been looking at and its so shiney I just love it.
apart from that I dont have much else to tell you, the knee has been horrible this week at work, I feel if I have to stand for longer that about 10 min's without moving it stiffens up and wont bend easily when I try to walk again, with most things I do I can walk around the chair [with the client in it :P] but when I am foiling I have to stay in the one spot for longer and it kills me, I'm just praying the revision will help that part of the knee problem.

I hope everyone else is doing ok and you have all had a good weekend
Take care Tez

Hi Rk4....stupid o'clock again, hey?..... ::)....I'd send you a little lullaby, but luckily for you KGs doesn't do audio....

Unpack that little box of fluffy white sheep, unroll the green field and lie it down, carefully put the sun low down in the rosy sky, and set up the little fence for them.....then wind them up and count how many can jump over it before you doze off.....

Hope you get some more sleep matey, tiredness and pain are not good bedfellows...

Bd - the rowing sounds great!  I love canoeing but have been out of it since last june when I first fx my left patella. Now I'm recovering from 2nd fx,same place. The thought of kneeling in canoe again not very attractive just now.  The rowing idea sounds very worth exploring.  Cathy.

Glad to hear it Kathy! Go for it - I'm so glad I did...  ;D

Not sure I'll ever get to meet messrs Pinsent, Redgrave and co, lol, but my knees are pretty good after the two hour session yesterday morning, and I couldn't even stand for two hours without severe swelling and pain, so it must be good!!

The best thing was that once in the boat, I was no different to anyone else. Bliss. And particularly nice to bring out my competitive streak again  ;D :o

Ahhh Brams...Your post made me smile from ear to ear.  Your new rowing experience sounds like pure joy.  Good going Brams.  I'm soooo very happy for you!  I like the unpretensciousness of a kinda low key clubhouse with down to earth people.  M. and I used to sail at a club a few years ago and it was just full of great people.  Life is best spent on water.   ;D

Tez...Congrats on the new shiny car!  I will also be looking forward to seeing some pics. of you and your new vehicle. 8)

Lottie...Hope you had a nice weekend.  Good luck with the interview!  It's this week, isn't it?

W...Loved your story about gramps and the cologne.  Hope the knees are treating you decently.  Glad you and your dad had a nice time at breakfast. :)

Rk...I've got to say that you sound downright chipper!  I'm glad that your doctor wants to set you up with an MRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Keep the faith girlie.   ;D

Snowy...I saw the pics of you on the bike on FB.  Congrats on cutting a full hour off your time.  That's awesome.

Nick, A, Super...Hope you are all well.

Not a whole lot new with me tonight. I booked a massage client for 6pm and she called at 5:50pm to tell me she wasn't coming.  Ah, well.  More time for me to work on my own knees I suppose.  It's funny that some days the new knee feels so good and other days it still aches.  It's not the weather for it's sunny here.  Hum.  I can't quite figure it out.  I'm still working on getting my extension to 0 degrees since I read that it's critical to good stair walking.  I thought that as my quads got stronger, my extension would just naturally follow.  Apparently, it's just not strong enough yet.  What I did figure out is that to build strength in my right quad, I must take the left leg right out of the picture.  It's a damn overachiever! ;)  Think that's it for me tonight.  Just wanted to say a quick how de do and comment on Bram'sssssss success.

Hugs, Robin xx

Hi guys!

Thanks for the rowing thoughts everyone! It was indeed fab, sadly I have to wait two weeks now before the next session because they aren't holding one on Easter Sunday. I will be champing at the bit!!!  ;)

Robin - you are right, pure joy just about sums it up... The great thing is that although things are a bit shabby where it doesn't matter, the club has a very long and proud history, some members rowing at national and international level, and one of the best stretches of water in the country, so I know they know what matters to be good! You need to stop and give yourself a massive pat on the back sometimes Robin, you're not that far out from surgery and it's amazing how far you've come in such a short time!! I have no doubt you'll get to that 0 degrees point.....that new hardware has to have the odd achy off-day just to remind you it's there lol  ;D

Tez - so glad you've got your shiny new car on its way!! You'll be burning up the roads in no time... ;D Sorry your knee is feeling so bad at work this last week. Can you ease back on the hours for a bit? It doesn't sound much fun at all  :( Take care of you and that poorly knee....x

W - lol at the gloves! I didn't feel it in my hands yet, but will have at look at some gloves as I don't fancy blisters and callouses!! Mind you, we haven't learnt feathering yet (twisting the oar through 90 degrees to lie the blades flat after they come out of the water) - the twisting will no doubt be hard on the palms. I'll get onto it! Did you enjoy your pancakes with your dad? Made me want to go to the kitchen and whip a batter up.... :P

Lottie - hope your glamorous trip today was exciting and just that teensy bit culturally fulfilling...lol  ;D How is Reggie today? Subdued I trust. Len went some weird colours after my shower this morning, looked like an alien being was about to jump out  :o Has the slaughter abated somewhat?! Poor bunnies, you'd think they would have alerted each other to the killers and be steering well clear by now...

Rk4 - how is that knee doing? Hope it's eased off a bit and allowed you some decent sleep...

A, Nick and Snowy - hope all is going well for you and the knees are doing ok!

That's it for me too for now, it's the Easter holidays here so the kids are off school... Tomorrow I am very excited about having my hair dyed again!!!! It's starting to get that 'hang on, you're really old aren't you' look at the temples and parting....eek! Oh the joys of ageing  ::)

Hugs to all,

Brams  ;)

Ha...feathering the oar!  Nope...you wouldn't be ready for that yet!  Be prepared for flying oars when you first start doing that!  It is always fun when the person who is sitting in front of you catches the oar on the water, loses the oar...and back it goes!  How well do you duck??  I am envious!  Maybe if my recovering would stop going at this snail pace, I could join the rowing club here this summer!  We use the old fixed seats!  No gliders!  We also have 6 in a shell instead of 8!  It is a very old tradition here!

How's your butt feeling...lol??

 ;D

Well, my butt isn't too bad, surprisingly! I felt it in my hams and glutes Sunday evening, but not as badly as I thought I might...

Have to admit that I caught a few crabs myself in the coxed quad, catches you by surprise, suddenly your oar is clattering with the person's in front, you're apologising wildly and then trying to fit yourself back into the stroke pattern... ::) Ah, it's all good fun. Mnd you, everyone else did it at some point as well!!!

My ducking was pretty darn good actually, I think I was the only one in our boat not pulled up by the cox for having their oars too deep...long may it last!

So far, it has been all gliders, I think we don't get to try fixed seats for a long while, it's tricky enough getting the hang of all this.... My husband can't wait for the chance to try a single oar, I suspect it'll be trickier than he thinks!

Go on W......you know you want to..... ;D

I have just spent a lovely day shopping in Glasgow with....wait for it my SON, nearly 20 and he wanted to come with me this morning, ok he did end up getting a load of new clothes, but unlike his sister he never asks for stuff, he looks and says if he likes something but has never been a demanding boy/man.
Anyway I had a great time with him and it was so nice to spend some time just the two of us, we have had our ups and down with him over the years but I really think he has started to grow up and become a lovely young man.
Sorry I had to tell someone as soon as I got home, and who better to than my lovely knee geek friends.

The only down side to today is I know have a very grumpy knee, but even that is not going to get me down today ;D

I will post more later take care everyone

Hi All,

Will have to be a quick post today limited with time and will update everyone what is happening recently. I have arranged to see my regular GP next week Tuesday afternoon and no longer need any anti depressants as I am not really depressed and will not take it just because of one person. I will discuss a few things with him, does the NHS do any types of relaxation classes as I might benefit from them. I know you can do tai chi, yoga and pilates and think it only for women and not for men!

I am not happy with my support worker that is meant to help support adults with Asperger syndrome in work and helped me out last year and now she will no longer help me out. I wanted to have a meeting with her but declined and might be totally wrong but get the feeling she thinks I am thick and stupid as I mentioned about become a carer or support worker for adults with Asperger syndrome and looked at me as if I was being stupid. I would say I hate my job 7 out of 10 and always wanted to work with adults on the autistic spectrum and think I could manage it ok. I do not want to be a manual Greenkeeper all my working life and think I would benefit working in autism.

I will respond to everyone another time and hope everyone is doing ok and are not in too much pain and discomfort.

Another quick how de do to all!!!  Tez...that is soooo sweet that you had a nice outing with your son.  Sooooo freaking cute.  Heart, heart, heart.

Brams...Pure joy. ;D  Yes, do get yourself some gloves and do wear a life jacket.  This is coming from a gal who did something very stupid on the water and would most certainly would have lost her life if not for the jacket.  You will hardly even notice it's there these days.

Nick...Good thinking young man! Tai Chi, yoga and Pilates are awesome stress reducers. I began yoga the year my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and I can't even tell you the difference it made!  The more often you do it, the better it is at blocking out crap.

Gotta run.  Be well all geekolas.
