Foot Swelling After Sitting For Long Periods?
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:28:50 AM »
I had a TPF a few months ago and for some reason my foot swells REALLY bad if I sit for long periods of time. I took a 6 hour car ride a few weeks ago and my foot ballooned up. I just flew back from Hawaii a few days ago and again my foot swelled up. Today I sat in a chair for a couple of hours and again my foot swelled up. The swelling gets so bad that my skin will actually flake and crack. I've been checked for blood clots and I'm all clear. I also take Lovenox shots to keep from getting clots.

Is swelling in my foot after sitting normal? If so how long can I expect this to continue on for?

My foot still sometimes gets swollen.  It got a lot better about 5 weeks after I was FWB.  Do your best to keep it elevated as much as possible to prevent it from getting too bad.  Sometimes when I am sitting at my desk, I turn my gtarbage can over and keep my foot on it.

With me, it's just plain uncomfortable to keep my foot down for extended periods of time.
I always have my eye out for something to prop my foot up on, even if it is a garbage can!
And when going out to eat, I always increase the amount in our party by one--my leg gets it's own chair, too.  :)
