PLC and MRI question please
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:32:49 AM »
Hello,

I'm Michael from Egypt and I'm glad that I found those boards. I have been suffering from joints and ligaments problem for over 8 years. Dislocated shoulders degeneration of knee cartilages. It has been very tough especially that I'm 28 years old and can't get a job, actually I don't even move alot.

I have a question regarding my MRI scan, it showed that I have a mild joint effusion and grade 2 degeneration of PHMM. Cruciate ligaments are intact, thank god  :D

Now the question is: does a PLC injury shows up on the MRI scan??? because my dr told me that I have a PLC injury  ???
Thanks for help,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Sorry to hear of your joint and ligament problems.  Hope you can find a solution.

MRI's often don't show everything.  The best test for PLC is a physical test by your OS.

This PLC course will give you a lot of great information:

Lenore,

Thanks alot, I just came back from dr's office and he says my injury started to "heal". I don't know if tht is possible but I feel that my leg doesn't hyperextend like before and he's a great dr. the MRI didn't know any problems with ligaments so I guess I will be ok, but that cartilage degeneration is painful :(

I can relate to the "Cartilage degeneration is painful" statement.  I have found that after activity, a long soak in a hot tub (if able), followed by a moderate amount of a topical pain spray / gel (ben-gay, stop pain etc) really goes a long way in easing the pain.  Ice down the area just before bed seems to help also.  Hope this helps.....

Hey Michael,

That's great you are already healing and noticing more stability in your knee.  There is so little blood flow in the knee it's difficult to get things to heal in there.  Maybe you are one of the lucky ones and can avoid surgery for the PLC.  Hope so.

My cartilage is getting crunchier all the time so I can relate a little bit to your cartilage degeneration pain.  All I have to say is....ICE IS NICE!!!  Hope you can keep the continued degeneration at a slow pace.

Good luck for future progress.   ;D
