Microfracture surgery about a month ago
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:41:03 PM »
Good Morning: (I think I double posted)

My name is David, i'm 31, and I had a microfracture procedure done on my left knee almost 4 weeks ago.

I used to play american football until age 26, but know I only play flag football.  I also play basketball, but more flag than basketball.

I started having problems on my knee the next day after a game on october.  It just swelled up.  I could control it with ice, so I just kept on playing till the end of the season.  The only real bother was the swelling.  I could run, jump, cut, spin do all these things without pain.

In december, when the season was over, I noticed I had lost A LOT of muscle in my injured leg (dont know how actually)  The thing is when I started lifting weight it really hurt (although I could still do 30 + minutes in bike and eliptic machine without pain). Kept on doing my everyday things (a had NO PAIN, thats why i waited so long to get the surgery) I had my surgery on april to "clean out the knee" and woke up with microfracture.

From what i've been told, They had to drill 2 holes in the injured part of my bone, I think it is just below of the kneecap.  0 pain from the day of the surgery, i've been able to sit down wit almost no weight on my leg, lost of ice and therapy (3 times a day) and I am using 4lb weights.

Any comments would be welcomed!!

Thanks

Problem with both knees!
« Reply #1 on: October 07, 2010, 02:50:32 AM »
Just wondering if anyone experienced this issue:  had microfracture procedure done on my right knee (typical..went in for a meniscus tear, came out with microfracture, mediial femoral condyle, 1cm)  I'm now 7 weeks post op after 6 weeks NWB and just started walking on the leg...boy oh boy..this is no fun!  Problem is, my other knee has the same problem.  So I basically I do not have a "good leg to stand on".  The other knee started to really hurt about 2 weeks prior to my surgery.  Went in for an MRI and it revealed a full-thickness lesion....about 1cm....same area but feels far more painful than the other.  Probably because I was putting more weight on it for months.

I'm in a rock and a hard place now.  Should I have waited?  Now I have two really bad knees and obviously cannot do anything to the other one until right knee is completely healed which could be 4, 5, 6 months out?  Who knows..we have to see.

My PT at the moment is the norm, riding bike, light weights, a lot of stretching etc.  Right knee that I had surgery on isn't too bad...my so called "good" leg is horrible that they gave me an unloader brace for now.

Anyone else have this problem?
Thank you
