Hellow fellow postero-laterally deficient knee owners.
I'm interested to know how you all progressed with your physio after surgery. How long did it take you all to gain range of motion? (extension and flexion)
Also, when working on your ROM, how much effort was it? How much did it hurt and what did you actually do?
Here's my progress:
Week 1 - I was in a fixed splint keeping my leg straight for the first week.
Day 8 - Splint removed and replaced with a Donjoy T-ROM brace. Extension was about 5 degrees, flexion about 30 degrees.
Day 12 - up to 40 degrees, extension near 0.
Day 24 - Went to the physio and he measured it at 55 degrees. Didn't measure extension, but he was very happy, only a couple of degrees less hyper-extension than my left leg. He was a bit concerned about my patella stiffening up, so gave it some massage and exercise. Aftet that the extension jumped to 75 degrees.
I'm now on day 28 and I think I've got about 5 more degrees, so nearly 80.
The main exercise I do for the ROM is quad contractions for extension and for flexion I lie on the ground with my leg propped up on the couch (thigh is vertical) and I let my foot slowly drop until my knee stops bending. I'm also doing hip abduction and adduction, leg raises and patella mobilisations.
A question - When you get to the end of your flexion how does it feel? What stops your knee bending further. I feel like tightness around the LCL/PFL (where my graft is) is preventing further movement. There is also a little resistance from my patella, but that seems to be loosening up.
