Anyone using the ERMI Knee Flexionater?
« on: March 04, 2010, 06:34:57 AM »
Today at PT I used the Ermi machine and loved it.  I know others (Debbieo and Cloudy) have/are using the JAS.  I would like any info from the pros on the board.  I'll share any information I find out.

Here's a link to their website:

I am using the ERMI flexinator.  When I first used it in formal PT I found it quite a challenge.  I really enjoyed the fact that I could 'see' my progress with the numbers on the side.  I believe - then - it resulted in a lot of progress for me.  But that was at 4 months post op and I'm now 10 months PO  for a TKR.

Oh - I am still using the flexinator on a daily basis.  My Dr from Cincinnati wants me on it to the lst yr mark.  But - that's because I have AF and I believe it is an effort to avoid a 2nd surgery.  It's not the prettiest thing in my LR - doesn't really match the decor -- but I need to be where I  can read or watch TV since I spend so much time on it.

I can't compare it to the JAS because I haven't used the JAS.  I wish I had started on the ERMI  sooner.  I believe the sooner you can get the ROM the better the results.

I used during my six weeks of physical therapy with both knee surgeries.  It was one of the best flex exercises for me....especially during the middle weeks of re-hab.  I did three five minute sessions and continued to increase the flex during each period.  I would be completed drenched in sweat at the end of the exercise.

Thanks for your positive input.  My gut tells me that this machine will be key in my rehab. I'm only 1 week out of TKR but I loved it instead of fighting the PT for flex.  I'm checking into renting one for home.  My insurance pays for nothing beneficial so I hope it's not outrageous!

Winter did you buy or rent it?

Thanks

The ERMI is better than sliced bread!!!!! OS in Cinci has had me use it after surgery. I have severe AF so it has been a life safer (or knee mover). Used it in PT and also had one at home. Plopped it in front of the TV, popped in a video game, and was good to go. Used 5 - 6 times a day.

Insurance paid for it the first time, but not the second. It can be pricey to rent, but worth every penny. Send me a PM if you are interested in more on this.

Hi

It seems there are 3 of us AF girls, with the same Cincinnati OS,  who have used it.  I loved the ERMI so much , I wrote about it on the hub

http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEnotes/node/182

If I could buy only 2 pieces of DME , I would by the ice machine and the ERMI flexionator.  The problem is... I've bought enough DME to open up a small shop......but still no ERMI   :P

OK I still love that machine but have to figure out if it's worth my left arm to rent one.  I was quoted $3500 for a long term rental 6 months.  My PT is going is going to make some phone calls, he says it can't cost that much to buy.  MY PT says I can come in as much as I want to use it on off days or return visits later in the day.  The more you use it the better flex you'll get.  I'm at 105 1 week out of TKR but I want to get the furthest I can during rehab.

Hi Suntan,

I still have the flexinator in my LR and am still using it.  The OS wants me on it til the 1 yr mark and that is now 2 months away.

I have not had to pay for it.  My ins has covered it.    However, my papers from ins say that it is $1893.20 per month.  And that my ins pays $1408.00.  AND that I owe the balance.  The ins company says I am not supposed to pay that balance.  SO, it is an ins problem.  However, I believe that the ins is correct and I am not to be 'balanced billed'.

Be aware, that everytime I was put on the Flexinator at formal PT, they charged $100.00.  And folks were always lined up for that machine.  What I'm saying, is run the numbers and see how much they can make with a machine in a PT facility, vs renting it to you at home

Suntan - cont'd

If you find out what one costs to buy, please email me.  I'd love to know.

You are using it at the optimal time for progress.  Good luck with it.  I would recommend you take up the offer from your PT to get more time on it.

As far as my figures above on the rental, remember every ins policy is different - even f it is with the same company.

Well I haven't figured out how much to but this thing but if you look at it , it is a pneumatic car jack.  Someone out there has to have made one.  I LOVE that machine.  On moday I was barely 90n and after 30 minutes of heart and soul I did 120 on the table.  Today I zoomed to 120 and went even further on ERMI but they wouldn't let me goes past 120 with staples on the tables.  I DO BELIEVE ERMI is the key!
I'm still looking for the ERMI price or knockoff.
