Anyone Had Experience of Healing of Osteoarthritis of the Knee?
« on: November 14, 2009, 07:44:59 PM »
Hello everyone.  I'm new and if I've posted this in the wrong place could mods please move it.  Thanks.

I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees.  I can only walk short distances before I have to sit down because of the pain.  I'm 58 and it is getting progressively worse.  I  have had a pretty physical life and want to continue it.  I am scheduled to have TKR at the end of January on my right knee and am pretty scared.  Just recently I have had some Healing and there does seem to be some improvement.  Can I ask if anyone on this forum has any experience of this?  Is it reasonable to hope/expect a real cure?  I can do visualisations/positive thinking/good feelings, call it what you will and am willing to put in the time to this effect.  I'd really like to avoid the surgery if possible but also want a full life, I'm an outdorsey sort of person.   I have kind of given myself until the end of the year to see some REAL improvement, failing that I will have the TKR. Any and all advice greatly received. Thanks.

You can find new and more effective ways to manage the pain, and you can build up surrounding muscles to help "lighten the load", so to speak, or you can have asurgical procedures to help with the pain...but arthritic damage does not heal. Damaged cartilige is a little like keys dropped into a pit of molten lava. Forget it man, cuz it's gone. That's why we want to hang on to what we've got for as long as we can. :-(

There are things you can try before you do the TKR. Viscosupplments.  Cortizone.   I just started using arthrotec and oh boy my pain levels have dropped after I am thinking there is nothing that could stop the pain ..  I was like to my Doctor.   The loracet is not cutting the cookie.  Than we went through the list of NSAIDS I have tried in the past.   Celebrex, Mobic. Flector patch. IB ,  Naporsen .   ..    The  arthrotech is a combo of voltaren and a tummy protector to prevent ulcers.   The packaging states it can take up to 2 weeks to feel the full effects of it.    However here I am on day 2 and mind you have not been walking around like a normal person but the constant pain has been lifted.   The best part is  I have not needed to take an opiod to manage the pain.  And what can make a person more thrilled than that..

I did have a TKR in my right knee .. I can tell you it is a blessing.. Trying to hang on to the left knee. Thrilled to bits that the pain levels have subsided and I am not sleeping with ice bags on my knee

Does anyone know anything further about this? It looks too good to be true.   I looked at the site; it's in India.  Samson has not been back since posting this.

The degenerative cartilage can be regrown using a new revolutionary treatment known as QMR Therapy™ which is non invasive and totally painless.

Prob some spammer..   If it is not FDA approved.  I wouldn't be going over to a 3rd world country and be someone they test a theory on.    If your interested in a stem cell regen.. Try reading about ACI or Maci.

There are validated and researched methods using stem cells alongside conventional surgery (eg microfracture plus stem cells, Cartifill, etc) or via cartilage transplant (ACI/MACI) along with newer injection in-injection out regimes (Regenexx in Denver). All of these advances are publishing in peer reveiwed journals which is waht you need rather than a Daily Mail raving article about the next big fix. I'd be wary of this QMR company, they have no aparent supporting evidence!! :o [NB I deleted the spam account and posts  KNEEguru]
