Hi all,
Had surgery August 08 , 15 months later i am still getting some swelling within my knee area after hard practises ( used to play pro baksketball in europe ) , it doesnt swell after running only after basketball ( getting low and turning etc ). However it does feel signficantly better than 8 months ago when i started to practise again??? The swelling isnt as bad either, do u think over time it will all go away as i continue to work on the strength and balance of my dodgy right leg? my bostrum feels tight and swells but is very stable ! basically is this as good as iut will get for me.......................

Hi English Kid, Is your knee well enough to play competitive basketball again? Sounds like no... I was a competitive athlete in high school in basketball and soccer and played some club soccer in college. (Nowhere near your level) Had microfracture last May or so...about 19 months ago. I followed all instructions and all rehab. My muscle on my injured knee (the right one) is in pretty good shape...like I said I followed all instructions and worked hard. I can do weight lifting exercises pretty well...nowhere near pre-surgery strength. yet but improving. I have pretty much given up any type of agressive sports though. My knee cant take any pounding at all: running, light box jumps, or even just shooting baskets. A couple of days ago I did some fairly light shooting around at the gym....dribbling, jump shots, you know something I wouldnt even have considered a workout before. My knee has been sore and swollen for 4 days. I pretty much have given up... maybe I am just a wimp...but I feel like maybe I am lucky just to be able to walk without pain.
Does anyone know.... Am I making my knee worse every time it hurts like this? Pain is usually the way the body tells you to quit doing something. I guess I could take the pain though if I knew I wasnt risking damaging it worse.
At 19 months could I still be healing more or is it done at this point?
Should I just give up on activities like basketball or is there something that can be done about this?
