Arthroscopy post Fulkerson Osteotomy
« on: November 03, 2009, 05:50:45 pm »

I underwent a Fulkerson Osteotomy in October 2008 to correct patella mal-alignment but have not recovered well - I continue to experience knee stiffness and great difficulty strengthening thigh muscles. As such, I am a candidate for an arthroscopy to examine the joint. Has anyone gone through a similar process? What were your results? Would you recommend another course?

Many thanks in advance for swift responses. I have an appointment with an OS tomorrow.

I had 2 scopes after my Fulkerson's on my left knee...ended up having scar tissue removed which was getting pinched in the joint.  For me neither scope was a big deal...2/3 scope holes...no real pain more sore then anything...I was swollen for a week or two that needed regular icing to decrease.  I had foll ROM with in  2 weeks.  Never went to PT after either...I just worked on my own.

Good luck,
Karen

Karen,

Thanks for your reply! It was very helpful. Could you tell me how long it took you to rebuild muscle mass afterwards? I have to leave for South America for week on December 29th and I am having the scope tomorrow, and the last thing I want is to be up a creek without a paddle.

Building muscle is going to depend on the actual problem found.  For me I never lost much of the muscle I had prior to the scopes but I was not able to get back into the gym either.  I required much more work done then just the scope - My profile pic is the partial replacement i had done on the same knee.

Lawerence you'll be fine, if your trip is only a week you'll hardly miss a beat.
Make sure to keep doing your exercises while your away.

I have had a ttt and then had a scope in June, I'm still having a difficult time building muscle mass.  My quad has been pathetic for many years that I'm really having a really hard time.
