Would a meniscus tear cause tendon pain?
« on: October 13, 2009, 03:09:57 AM »
Or prehaps vice versa?  I jumped off a 4 foot tall stage 6 months ago and am still in some type of unconfirmed knee pain.  Ive been told its tendonitis, patella femoral syndrome, a bone bruise, lots of things, but all those things (minus the bone bruise) seem like they would happen over time to someone far older than i (18), so despite MRI results, i'm convinced its a torn meniscus.  I feel a good amount of pain on the inside (side touching my other kneecap) in the middle, where it looks like the diagrams i've seen place the meniscus.  So i'm wondering if that is also causing the pain i have in the tendon that runs atop my knee cap, because I also have alot of pain there.  This is so frustrating, and I just want to be able to run and jump and do normal 18 year old things.

The MRI showed possible patella femoral syndrome, but again, it seems as though this wouldnt erupt instantly from jumping off the stage, it would be a little more gradual...anyways.  Patella Femoral/Torn meniscus treatment included rest and PT, scope maybe if it doesnt heal.  Bone bruise treatment was let it heal for 4 to 5 months.  Its almost six months later now, and it looks like its a scope or nothing, because this isnt going away.  There can be a series of 2 or 3 days where it feels like its going somewhere, and then it will come right back.

Maybe the patella femoral syndrome was  a preexisting condition that was worsened by your jump.  If you are having pain 6 months later, I would strongly consider getting the scope done.

Are you doing any physical therapy exercises?  These can make a huge difference.

I was doing them for several months, but they yielded very little success, and seemed to be doing more harm than good in most cases.  I still use the bike at the gym and several strengthening exercises, but thats about it.
