Hi there, Had TKR 3 weeks ago, wound is still slightly weepy in the middle where I try to bend my knee, exercises etc which is restricting what the physio can do with me, it was very swollen but is going down now, although I have a bit of lymphoedema in the lower leg as well. I was in agony before the op, and although its better than it was, I do still have an ache, the new knee is also making lots of clicky clunky sounds when I move, is this normal? I just wanted a bit of reassurance all will be well I guess, and to hear from others that are doing well. I had a scorpio knee I think its titanium ? does anyone know? I am impatient with myself and want to run before I can walk, will be glad when I can walk and put full weight on it, how long does this take on average?

Hi Sounds like your doing well. When do you see your OS next? I would be concerned about the weeping from your knee. Have you contacted him about it yet? Now for the when you can run before you walk bit. Yes you are suffering from impatience. You have along 2 year road ahead of you with up's and downs. The first 14 days are the hardest and you should see yourself improving by leaps and bounds over the next few days but remember when I say leaps and bounds they are baby steps of leaps and bounds. Everyone gets to a point of fully functioning there in there own time. I would say by week 12 you are almost human again. Some faster some longer. It is a journey.

Hey Janice! I was really impatient too...to say the least...and I prob'ly pushed too hard too soon just out of desperation...lol. Doesn't make it heal any faster. I'm right at 1 year out, and my knee is GREAT! It's still a little clunky every now and then though. I still get achey when I sit still for long. Driving prob'ly bothers me more than anything. It's hard, but try to be patient and let yourself heal. Sounds like you're doing great!

Hi Janice!! This is my very first post, just discovered this site today. Congrats on your new knee!! I am looking forward to reading your posts as you progress. I am behind you in that my surgery is 10/19/09 on left knee and 10/23 on right knee. I am beginning to get anxious about the surgery, and the pain especially. Problem is, I am a nurse and know too much!! Anyway, that being said, I will try to post my experience in hopes it will give others information and insight. Now, I do want to suggest as someone else did to watch the drainage you have going on. Hopefully, it will resolve on it's own without any other problems.I live in the DFW area of Texas and would like to know where you are located. Take care and don't rush yourself!! And, remember to give that same advice back to me after I am home!!

Hi there, Hope your op went ok. Im now just over 6 weeks post op. I am walking, driving and will go back to the gym on Monday, also will be able to swim again yippy!!! The scar tissue is extremely sore, although healed now, its mainly over the knee area where the skin pulled so much as my leg was so swollen, and I have thickened scar tissue in this area, which pulls like mad even now, the physio tried to massage it but I also still have tissue swelling under my knee and when she does this to me I nearly go through the ceiling with the pain. Its a minor thing and I am sure it will improve. I go back to see my consultant in a week, and he will decide when he will do my other knee. I have good movement which I didnt have before and can actually pedal my exercise bike around now, as before I couldnt turn the pedals, although first thing in the morning the first time I get on its still a hard push to achieve it. My knee muscles are so weak, and getting upstairs like a normal person is still a hard job, I dont think I want the other knee done til this one is stronger. Also in the evening when I am sitting down, or even in bed, I get a terrible ache in my shin area, and sometimes the inside bit of my knee. Its early days I know and hopefully it will settle down. I was able to walk 4 miles last week round the shopping mall, no crutches now so I was really pleased with myself as I wouldnt have been able to walk 100yards before without a crutch. Take care and hope to hear your surgery went good. Janice
