11 wks post op and not happy
« on: July 22, 2009, 02:46:08 PM »
Dear all

A year ago today I had a patellectomy on my right leg - I was back at work a week later and even though I was non bending I was getting on with day to day activities with no problem.  12 wks post op I was back to where I was pre op.

11 wks ago I had my left knee cap removed - I was not allowed to bend the leg for 8 weeks (previous 4 wks on othere leg) and now still not allowed to bend it apart for sitting and sleeping - I am not allowed to bend it until September 12th (4 months post op).  I am still in absolute agony - I can only achieve about a 70 degree bend on a good day.  Having seen my consultant again last week he told this was normal - every one heals differently - but my two knees are healing completely differently!  Looking at the two surgeries - there were a number of differences which the consultant doesn't seem to want to explain to me.  Scar length is totally different Right = 12 staples and just under 10 inches Left 26 staples and the scar is 2 ft long - what did they do - lose the knee cap so had to hunt for it???

Also when I spoke to the consultant they have decided to now go back to "playing" with my right leg... The patellectomy has not stopped the subluxations - the tendon is popping out as much as it did when the knee cap was present.  But we have agreed that the left needs to recover fully before the right one gets another look in.

I am really fed up now as I was lead to believe the recovery would be nearly the same as the other knee but this seems to be completely different.  But as mentioned "every body heals differently".  I know the other leg needs addressing but at present it is a night mare with one leg giving way all the time and the other locked for walking - I just would like to get back to normal (what ever that might be! LOL :))

Regards
