Karen,
I presume your seeing this TKR OS for another opinion on your AF not for a TKR right? Sometimes TKR doctors can be helpful because they tend to encounter AF a bit more. I think its great that your at least getting someone elses opinion.

I am getting as much info on my AF condition as I can, from anywhere and anyone who can give me some quidence. At this point I doin't know what to do!!! I will get a second, third, fourth etc... opinion to see just what my options are at this point. It seems that OS who do TKR see more paitients with AF, and insite I can get will be helpfull. I see my OS on Mon, not so sure what to expect, nothing has helped. The steroid injection, oral steroids, as well as my reg pt and home exercises, still have the same results...again I have that samr STUCK feeling. Thanks for ofering me all your advise and helpfull info. I will let you know what happend after I see my OS in a few days. Thanks again...Karen

Well I had a visit with the assistant of my OS today. He measured me at 88 degrees flex, and then stated that at this point he is totally baffled on what to do now. He told me he was going to have to see what the OS is considering on doing now, and get back to me. I received a message today about scheduling a surgical consult with the OS!! I had talked with his assistant about seeing someone on TKRS for some advise. He said at this piont, with all the scarring in my knee, that would totally be a bad idea. I would end up far worse than I am now, and never regain the amount of flex I hvae tried so hard to get at this point. I wonder what the OS is considering to do next??? I am going to call the office tomorrow and schedule an appt. to see what he is thinking of doing to me next. Thanks...Karen

He's 100% right Karen, TKR's are well known for producing a ton of scar tissue so that is definatelt not a solution. Your only option is to search out an os familiar with AF in your area. I'm in the same position looking for someone else and it is not easy but I am not letting my first os touch my knee anymore.

I concur. I'm not sure I would continue to let a surgeon chop me up after multiple (or even just one) failed attempts.

Hey Karen,
Have you had the chance to read the postings on how people have conquered AF? There are some common themes through these. If you haven't been able to do that (or even if you have), it's worth going through taking notes and then trying to see where you have done different things. If you haven't done anything different it may indicate that you are a rare patient who may well need the care of a top specialist in this field. I know you have said how this is not possible for you, but perhaps it is worth discussing this with your family to discuss what next.
It seems as if the choices are accept disability; continue seeking solutions locally and going through whatever trauma is involved; seek those with specialist experience of this. You may think of some others. Whatever the difficulties involved in travelling away, this may seem preferable to permanent disability. Alternatively, you may decide the strain of fighting on is taking everything out of you and you can't put your life on hold anymore and want to just take things from here. The problem is that it's easy to oscillate from one position to another over a period of days. The decisions ahead aren't easy and they will also affect our family. I hope (and pray) that you will be able to talk this through and reach a way forward that you are all able to live with. Compromise isn't beneficial in this instance so it may take a considerable time to reach a consensus that enables you to live at peace with whatever outcomes in the future.
Personally, I am accepting my pain, am due to go into a pain management programme and have decided to reject any TKR until I can be sure that it addresses a mechanical defect. I don't include scar tissue management in this. On the other hand, I don't have your ROM limitations which present you with additional problems so my position is not necessarily relevant for you. However, I really feel for you and hope you find some peace.

Thank you sp much for your kind words, and advise. I have not posted for a while, due to the fact that I have nothing new to say. Same old thing...over and over again. No one seems to know what to do next. My pt is positive at my next OS appt. that he is going to want to either open me up and do another scar tissue removal, or if I say NO, to send me to someone else. I know my knee is not too bad compaired to others on this site. I just get fustrated with myself sometimes!!! My pain is constant, but easily controlled with meds. It's the dead stop I get with my lack of ROM at 85-88 degrees, that aggrovates me. I keep telling my family that YES I am in pain, and YES I can't move normally, and YES I still try to do everything I did before my accident, but I just can't. It seems that the only people who understand all of this is YOU!!! I thanks god I found this site. It helps me keep my sanity sometimes. I kow my family really dose not understand, they are not trying to hurt my feelings, still they are. I have been having a lot of deep muscle pain in the calf region as well as the upper thigh and behind the knee, at my last visit with the OS he stated my muscles are starting to atropty. That sounds bad!!! Thanks for chatting.... Karen
