6 weeks post op arthrofibrosis removal
« on: April 25, 2009, 07:24:43 PM »
Hi, 6 weeks ago i had surgery to remove arthrofibrosis and I think all is going well but I am just looking for a bit of advice as to what to look out for and also on when to return to activities as both my surgeon and physiotherapist have next to no experience with arthrofibrosis.

I have full and equal hyperextension and have full flexion when kneeling. Also I think that my kneecap is fine as it moves around well, but i didn't really have an issue with it before the surgery either. My surgeon has told me to continue on with rehab towards returning to sports but with Lenore's help I now see that I should probably be taking it a bit easier!
Any advice about what to look out for especially would be much appreciated.

Hi Miss Sporty,
It sounds as if you are doing amazingly well!  I hope it keeps up!!!!!  I could never kneel after my knee problems.....not before my knee replacements or afterwards.  That alone is amazing!  Are you having regular physical therapy?  That is  very important!!!!!  I found my arthrofibrosis worsened with time.....but it depended on the type of therapy I had.  Most were rather difficult and painful.  I can't give advice because scar tissue has always been a problem with my knee surgery.       Stay in touch and let us know how you progress and the very best of luck.

Hi
Nice to hear you are doing well, pardon for asking but what did they actually do in the operation. I am going in for similar in two weeks after a TKR a year ago and had real problems with AF since

Hi,
I am having physio once every two weeks and do exercises at home too.

I'm not sure exactly what was done in the surgery, all I know is that he removed scar tissue from 4 areas of my knee, particularly at the front by the knee cap where it was worst. Good luck for yours!

Good for you...glad you're doing so well. Was this the first time you've had scar tissue removed? If so, you might have had just the "average" extra scar tissue that is pretty common, not the recurring kind that many of us are suffering from (arthrofibrosis). Either way, it's wonderful to hear you're doing great!
