So low today
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:01:27 PM »
Hiya everyone

I had a uni joint put in 2005. I am in more pain now than pre op.

I have had a terrible few days with my leg...Im so low today as the pain is just constant.

I have 2 os

one says to have a revision done and that the original joint insitu may have been put in wrong....but ''is an easy mistake to make''

the other says not to have surgery done as there is only 30-40% chance of some improvement- he feels that the potential risks outweigh the benefits of having further surgery.

Im so distraught. Why wont drs say ''yes there has been negligence''.

I just dont know what to do nest. Im only 42 and have a young family.

Thankyou for taking the btime to read my post

moomoo x :(

You need to find a revision specialist. They are the surgeons that fix the mistakes all the other doctors make..

I am sorry to hear if you are in alot of pain.  My doctor told me long ago that intense pain could always be a warning sign of infection.   Please see a doctor ASAP whether it is your primary care doctor to help you with pain management and to refer you to an OS who can work on a complex case. ( Revision Specialists)

Have the doctors mentioned how much bone you have left?  What type of risks is he exactly seeing that could be a complication?  Have you been able to look at your Xrays ? to see the implant yourself.   What country are you in ?

Knees just plain suck..  Once they go bad they are never predictable again.   One day fine the next day hell and you are not sure if it is short term pain  or if it is something that will last weeks to months.

I hope you find yourself in better spirits shortly.

Does iciing help lower the pain levels?

Hiya

Thankyoufor your replies

Im in the UK. I have tried a google search but cant find ''revision specialist''  :(...this would be ideal.

Im seeing my os on friday (he is a general os). Im just so confused with having 2 drs saying different things. I just cant seem to make sense of it all. I will let you know the outcome- he doesnt want me to have any further surgery as the joint is in such a mess.

I cant stand ice on my leg. I have developed chronic pain syndrome (although the one os said I hadnt got it as there was an ''organic'' cause for the pain??).

Im worse now than what I was pre op. I wish I could turn back the clock- I would never of had it done. Isnt hindsight wonderful, but I trusted my original os but this has turned out to be a huge mistake.

I just want answers but noone will commit themselves.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my thread.

If you say where you are in the UK people may be able to help. There are several specialist clinics as well as hospitals specialising in Orthopaedics. If you go to the information pages here you can search for people listed for the UK with their specialities.

If you are free to go private it speeds things up. If not, get your GP on board and use the NHS Choose and Book system to select your specialist when you have found someone. It may also help for your GP to refer you to a specialist to check the pain out - Pain Management Clinic. They will be able to test to see if you have have the early stages of RSDS (the newer acronym for Chronic Pain Syndrome). The sooner that is diagnosed the better the chances of getting it cured - too late and it is much more difficult to treat. Nettan is the acknowledged "expert" in this from the patient side as she is a long term sufferer.

Good luck and don't give up without a fight for the treatment you need.
