I also thought I was totally ready after so many surgeries. I had been through this before and was completely prepared at home and mentally. I was excited! However, I had a hard time with some complications and uncontrolled pain. I came through it all in time, but just a gentle warning that just because you think you're prepared, you never know! All that being said....good luck!! I hope everything goes perfectly for you!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I guess my answer was coming because we had a friend who recently had a TKR. No matter how much I tried to prepare him, he thought he was ready. But he also thought he'd be back to work in a week. He just had no clue! With your history, I know you're not in that position. I wish all the best to you!

Janet one more thing, the l reason that I feal that this won't be as bad as most say is I had gone through a very devastating Motorcycle accident in which I suffered for a very long time. This was 24 years ago a time when they did not believe in pain control! I can still remember this pain vividly in my mind and this is why I think I can deal with this. Granted as I said there will be times when I simply will be distraute! But at least I can lean on pain meds, something that was non existent 24 years ago......

Did someone mention they knew someone who was going to be back to work in a week? Makes you wonder how doctors prepare people. Truth be told > at a week I was just about figuring out how to balance a walker and a toilet seat. I must admit I did well at getting my socks and sneakers on by myself. The GP who was taking care of me in the rehab place watched me do it as we were talking about normal doctor visit stuff.
I think in the next year I might be having lefty done. I had righty done in Dec 2006. Let me tell you .... it is not something you want to jump into. It is just not the hospital /rehab bit but the whole how draining it is to even ponder it. I tell you you know you are ready when you get excited about planing for it all.
I actually think it is harder to drag your ass around day by day before hand than the aftermath... That is just me but still ugggh. I can't bare the thought of another surgery just yet. I brought out my crutches today. Not to use.. but just to make sure I had them if I needed them. I brought my folding cane to work and placed in a desk draw. I still hate the thought that I will need to start using it more soon.
Each knee is different.. With lefty I feel more knee cap crap going on. I do not want to use my cane or crutches but I have to think about the saftey of my right knee implant .. If I am gimping around.. what kind of crap can I do too it..
I mean my left knee going to crap is a direct result of my right knee being crap since I was overcompensating on it for so long. .. Hopping
Going to see the OS Tuesday. Maybe he can come up with a better pain management plan. I just hate taking meds during the day.
