1-year post-op: sharp pain when standing around
« on: February 12, 2008, 07:13:10 PM »
Hi all - this will be a hard one to explain, but I figure it's worth a shot. I've recently passed the 1-year mark and things are generally good, skiing and all. However, there's been two recent occasions when I've been standing around for an extended period, I guess with the weight primarily on my straight, operated leg. I'll suddenly feel a sharp pain on the front of my right knee, just to the left of the knee cap. I notice it, take the weight off the leg, and the pain goes away within a minute or so. It's happened twice now while standing around, but I don't really have any other pain during normal activity. Anyone experience anything similar or have any idea why this would be happening? I'm probably due for a final OS visit anyways, but thought I'd see if this sounds familiar to anyone. Thanks.

Jeff

I get this too. My pain is very sharp and very quick, then goes away. I have damage to my bone cartilage though, so I think this is why I have the pain. I don't know why you have sharp pain this far out of surgery. I don't have pains any where relative to my ACL, just on the lateral side of my knee to the right of my kneecap and along the lateral side.

I have a pain from time to time similar to Celine. Its very sharp, but goes away almost immediately after I feel it. It used to happen much more frequently when between 0-12 weeks post op, but at almost 8 months, I rarely feel it anymore.

Thanks for the input. I have an OS appt in a couple weeks and will see what he thinks. I did have a partial meniscal tear that didn't require trimming... maybe that could have something to do with it. It's very infrequent, so as long as it's not the kind of problem that is indicative of a graft problem or would predispose me to another tear, then I'll live with it. Thanks
