my kneecap moves side to side with no pain
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:14:06 AM »
I recently sprained my MCL, but since I was babying my knee i noticed my knee cap moves side to side very easily with the help of my hand.  Nontheless, it does not hurt,  my question is can this kneecap movement be serious?  And would it be ok if I go back to playing basketball?

seriously, don't all kneecaps do that?   mine easily move at least 3 inches.  i thought that was normal.  let''s see what others say.  i would guess it isn't a big deal but  I am not an OS and my knees aren't an asset of mine.

Is your other knee the same ? Have you lost a lot of muscles ?
Probably after building muscles up this will get better.
Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.

Possibly a mobile patella?  It's probably only a problem if there is pain, and the knee cap is visibly maltracking, ie shifiting laterally.

To combat this possibility try to keep the inner quad  and glutes strong, and the ITB and hammies loose. See a physio or sports physician if you are concerned.

As the articular cartlige on the patella and the femur wears down it will do that. And if ya have no muscle tone ( like me) then it's gonna move from side to side some. I think 3 inches is a bit much but I'm no doctor thats for sure.  I guess as the old saying goes....if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I dont think its supposed to do that but I dont know. I just noticed my disloacted one moves too with no pain but my healthy one doesnt so Im thinking thats not good. Like I said no pain though really, I feel more pain when I walk or bend it.
