yes they are my knees Im the proud owner of them both.. :D

Ive seen my OS today and Im totally gutted coz I asked him to be totally honest with me, he was telling me about the condition of my knee and how bad it is, I said whats the chances of me walking normally again and he told me very slim and by normally I mean without a limp, Im still on crutches at the moment... I go back to see him in 3 months, and all I can do at the time being is physio to see if it helps or not...

I also told him about my right knee and he isnt prepared to even look at it whilst im struggling so much with my left knee... I saw the pictures from the scope and they looked normal apart form the instruments he is poking through my cartlidge, which is why the MRI missed it.

But he finally admitted today that there is a problem with my knee and im genuine. does this mean Im sane???

Hi Faye,

You are definitely sane and it's just normal to feel that way.

My knees will never be normal. Don't know what that is anymore.

My sports physician really understands how difficult it has been for me and how much I have been struggling with my pain.

I hope you have a good weekend.  :D

Hi faye,
I did laugh at your one suntanned leg pic :)

Dont worry about the OS saying that, they told me that when I was 12 and Ive always gotten around fine (besides the past 3 years) and no one noticed I didnt walk 'normally' - its nothing, if you can walk pain free and just get about no one analyses your walk so if you have a small limp its invisible - plenty of people without knee problems limp anyway!!!

when did you fall?

it looks pretty wierd doesnt it?? my left leg looks very unhealthy compared to the tanned one...but its a reminder. ;D....

I fell about 2 weeks ago Ive now come to the conclusion that me + stairs + crutches= accident, so as you can gather i slipped on the stairs, it was much more of a shock than anything else.. but since then ive been struggling to weight bear. getting a little better now though, just now everytime my foot touches the floor, it feels horrible, i can feel the breaks in my leg now, but thats easing too..

Ive go to admit again i am gutted by what the OS says, the thing that is bothering me,is just to what extent...but im going to work my hardest to prove him wrong, I see him again on 4th Dec, by then is my goal to be walking fairly normally...

Yesterday we went shoppping at meadowhall, i was in the wheelchair, coz its massive, but it felt good to get out and do normal people things despite the wheelchair, I got 2 dvd box sets. 2 pints of larger. 2 and a half men, have you seen these?

Kirsty I know what you mean, I dont know what normal is anymore

Hi Faye,
its so good to hear youre getting out and about - and you are right to bring the wheelchair than try to struggle round a massive place on crutches - dont want to be doing those shoulders in either!!! When I think back, I was only 15 for my big op and I was on crutches for months and I used to go to school on them - a mile!!! Ive no idea how I did it, but I think my youth and natural ability to adapt at that age helped - plus I weighed very little at 15, was all scrawny, so that made it easier!!

What do you mean you can feel the breaks in your leg?

Yeah we get both of those on tv - I have watched 2 and a half men sometimes, its funny. I love getting box sets - great to watch a whole series through at your lesiure over a few days or weeks.

Dont forget doctors always warn about worst case scenarios just so that their ass is covered if you make a bad recovery - so you will do better than you think!!

When i went to see the OS he pointed out where he had to break my leg and put in the screws and when he pointed out where he broke the bones, its like thats where I get all  the pain when walking, so it makes sense now....its a funny feeling I cant describe it, i just didnt know what it was until he told me.

Im on elbow crutches, so my shoulders arent taking a battering.

I cant understand why he isnt prepared to look at my other knee until this one is ok ???surely it would be best to look at it whilst its still strongish and would easily rehabiltate

How is your knee??

Hi Faye,

Sorry you had a fall. It must have really shaken you. When I had a car accident 3 weeks after my knee-op that really shook me up.

My right knee has been killing me but have to wait until I am out of the woods with my left knee. I think your OS wants to make sure the recently operated knee is ok before he starts on the other knee. My OS and sports physician think the same way.

Chin up, it can only get better.  :)

I like to watch these high speed chase programmes and its unbelievable how people can just walk away from these crashes without a scratch, I play with my nephew and still suffering. AH well thatsmy little moan outta the way.

I hope you are both good

P.S forgot to mention my physio said i will walk normally if its got anything to do with her

Hi Faye,
I love your physios attitude!!!
I do understand what you mean about the bone breaks - I had the same feeling after my TTT, its just bone pain. It does go away in time I promise - but it can take 6 months to a year, not that its killing you all that time - but youd be aware of the place alright.
I always think its amazing when people have those crashes too and theyre grand, and Im still limping about!!
I didnt have a great knee day, I was doing a training session in work and had to keep going in and out of the training room to get bits and pieces, my knee doesnt like lots of small movements like that so it was achey at the end of the day and I was limpy. Still did my walk though, actually felt better after it.
I get totally sick of all the physio and rehab. Its seems to take bloody forever!!! I was in depressed mode with it last week - just like you describe!!! I also get angry it took them so long to do anything!!! You must feel the same, cos if they acted quicker we wouldnt have lost so much function. Ah well - I suppose it will all be ok in the end.

my physios attitude is pretty amazing but they just make it sound so easy...like when they show you how to do exercises,(its like its ok for you both your knees work)  Im stuck in such a bad habit at the moment of using my right leg to support my left leg, keep getting told off for it :'(..

Im glad the pain will go away, all i need then is for my knees to stop buckling and I'll be grand.

I certanly hope it will all be ok in the end

Im stuck in exactly the same bad habits - I catch myself about to go through a door and Ive lifted my right foot off the floor and just let my leg dangle. Or when I get up out of a chair - I always put the weight through the good side. Its hard to break the bad habits.

Oh that bone pain will definitely go. It does. It niggles for a long time but it definitely definitely goes away with time.

When your muscles get stronger you will stop buckling. My physio seemed surprised Im not buckling in the past 4 weeks - she thought I still would be - she thinks all the walking has the messages from the brain moving faster or something.

It just takes time Faye. Its a pain in the bum but we have no choice but to do the rehab eh?

its them bad habits that have got us through tho isnt it? where would we be without these habits?

Yep absolutley no choice but to do the rehab, what else could we do with our time, if it werent for the rehab....

my knee is feeling quite good today, pain wise i mean.....it hasnt buckled once today but its only 2.55pm..still lots of time.

I totally agree Faye - if not for the bad habits Id have spent 3 years lying in a corner somewhere!!!

What on earth are we gonna do with our time when we're finished rehab? We'll be bored!!

Thats brilliant your knee has been feeling good. How long since your op now? I can remember the 4 month mark really noticing a big difference in pain levels.
Give me a picture of a typical day for you - youre still on crutches yes? What exercises you doing?

My knee is alright, Im still just bloody sick of it :)
But on the plus side Im up to walking 3 miles a day - it still feels easier after the 1st mile - but the difference isnt as noticeable as before.

Hi Faye,

Glad you are making progress and your physio will get you walking normally.

I have been struggling quite a bit with my walking pain in both knees. Think I'll call my OS's rooms on Monday. At the moment I feel like I'm walking like a 109 year old woman !!!!

I've been experiencing problems with some of my knee exercises and left about 5 messages for my knee physio over a 3 week period and still not had an phone calls returned. I am not happy !!! On Monday I will ring and leave a message for my sports physician. I know that he will ring me back.

Have a good weekend.  :)

its 13 weeks on thursday since my op..
a typical dayfor me is wake up and do my exercises which are 1)10 SLRs, but I cant do straight yet
2)10 heel slides, from side to side
3)the horrible towel rolled up and pressing into it.
then we take the kids to school, walk about a mile in the morning. Coz of shopping
Repeat exercise at dinner.
pick kids up fom school @3.30, which is a quarter of a mile, coz we go in car.
then 6ish I will do exercises again.
might go out in evening to see friends or take kids out. (more walking)
then 10pm ish I do exercises for last time.
but every hour in the day I have to push my knee down on sponge to try to get quads firing x10.
Im still on crutches but round the house im usually ok without them, but both my knees buckle.

got to go now my battery is dying... will post again when i find my charger
