I am really sorry to hear this! It seemed like you were getting along so well and now this.  Has your injury reminded you of the old pain you had in your knee or something different?  Did this happen while you were working?  I have not been doing so great myself. I have continued to struggle and have problems, and after exhausting my options, I am having a BiCompartmental knee replacement on June 25th.  My implant is being custom made for me from my CT scan and I am hoping to finally put all this knee bs behind me!  Please keep us posted and i will keep you in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about the set-back but maybe they will be able to tell why you were having pain after sleeping/working out too hard when they scope you so maybe it's an ok thing.

Oh, my... so sorry to hear what happened Kevin.  That's awful after all the time spent to have another injury (plural injuries more like).  Good luck with everything.

Hey Peg Leg yes it did happen while i was working but no it isn't the same pain as it was prior to my surgeries.  I dont know if that is a good thing or not.  It doesnt hurt all the time but at times when i am standing for a long time or when i am walking and i lock my knee all the way out it give me an excruiating pain that stops me in my tracks.  It also scares me that when i am walking with my daughter im afraid that im going to fall.  I have fallen without her but thank god not with her.  Im a little worried about the surgery because if my knee gets any worse i might not be able to return to work and yes i know it weird but i really want to return back to work.  It keeps me on an even keel.  But enough about me im sooo sorry about you.  I cant believe that you are still in a lot of pain but hopefully the knee replacement will work out for you.  I had a roommate when I had my aci done and he had both knees replaced at the same time and on the same day as the surgery he was walking with a walker and by the second day he was walking with a cane.  I dont know if that puts your mind at rest but best of luck and keep us posted.

I had my scope today and unfortunatly I damaged my ACI repair that was done almost 2 years ago.  My OS is recommending a cadaver graft to repair it this time he is not sure that another ACI surgery would be in my best interest  . And I have my shoulder to look forward to.  I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday so I guess I will have a better idea of what is going on in means of the next surgeries for my knee and my shoulder.  I guess it ok that i have some luck but unfortunely its BAD LUCK .  I will post again when i have a better idea.

Hmmm, good luck.  Was it the car accident that caused the injury to ACI?  You had mentioned pain in some posts previous to that.

I am so sorry to hear your news.   I'm sure your are devastated.  I had an osteochondral allograft recommended before I decided on the replacement. You should ask your Dr. what your limitations will be after this procedure and also what are the odds for it being successful.  I was told that I would not be able to have any impact on the graft, ever. It also had a higher chance of failure.  This helped me to decide to go with the custom made implant. It sounds like I will be able to be more active and you're right, I was up and walking overnight. A huge improvement over our ACI rehab!  Try and keep your chin up and please do your research. I have a diary in the uni-compartmental section, come and visit me there! Keep us posted and you can pm me if you want to talk about it.

Hey all,

I went to see my OS yesterday and he said that he had cleaned out my knee and that I did sheer cartilage in the same spot as 2 years ago .  He also said that he still wanted to do the scope on my shoulder on Aug. 3 and then he would see how my knee is doing at that time.  He also said that he may send me back to work after my shoulder scope  .  I dont know if I like the sound of that, I want my knee to be fixed so I dont have to worry about having to be out of work in the future.  He told me that if I did get the cadaver graft that it would be a 6-9 month recovery , but I guess if thats the way it has to be thats the way it has to be.  I am still having pain the knee even after he cleaned it out in the same general area as 3 years ago when I initally injured it.  I guess I will know more after my shoulder scope when I see him for my follow up.  Good luck to everyone I hope you are having better luck than me .

I wish you the best Kevin.  Hope it turns around for you.  Unfortunately it looks like another long haul... you were back to work amazingly fast the first time.  I am 7 1/2 months post and couldn't imagine doing police work (I sit at a desk and work on the computer)

Hey all,

I had my shoulder surgery on 8-3-09 and it is good news.  It wasn't the rotator like we thought I tore my tendons off of my shoulder.  My OS was able to repair the tendons while he was performing my scope and he said it should only be about 3 months recovery.  Now for my knee since he has done the surgery it has been getting better by the week and I am crossing my fingers that I may not need the cadaver transplant after all.  My OS said that he wants to see how my knee is going to heal with a little bit more time and then we will make a decision.  He did clean up the cartilage that was scheered, but I do still have a clicking in my knee when I sit down or squat down, it doesn't hurt though .  I quess that it could be worse, I have definatly been there.  So like I said Im keeping my fingers crossed and hopeing for the best.

Sorry to hear about all your knee problems, I too may be facing a carticel surgery, so it was it was interesting for me to read about your whole recovery. I am 1 week post op from having an OCD lesion removed and a microfracture surgery done. They sent a piece of cartilidge from the bone lesion to the carticel labs. If the microfracture surgery fails, I will be facing the carticel surgery.

Anyways, as a police officer, isn't there a way you can do desk work such as being the 911 operator or helping with paperwork? It may not be as exciting as chasing criminals, but I would be better than sitting at home all day. I'm not sure how police stations work, but maybe that could be a possibility.

Yes it wouldn't be as exciting but unfortunatly my police department is only 20 guys and we dont have desk duty and we have a county wide dispatchers and they are unaffiliated with them but thanks for the idea.
