I had Total Knee Replacement on May 10th 2007, My knee was had gone 4 ortho scope surgery in the past.       Thiis is my left knee. What I am concern about is that, I get real strong pain on the left side and in the quid muscle.  Some times it feels like someone is beating it with a hammer........Has anyone had this happen to them?   Also, I need some encouragement bad.   I'm use to getting out and helping my husband around the house and yard, and running my own erruns  and I cant do it.   I try to do house work, but the knee swells worse then it was before I started........     I go to Pt twice a week, and I work on my stuff at home, but darn't I guess :-[I just expect mircles and be able to do a lot on my own.....I know some people have had this surgery, and in 4 - 6 weeks they are running around great.

Oh I have a heart condition, that reqiures me to have a Pace Maker and I have some spinal issues, back problems, so the doc said I will not heal as fast.  Please some one advice me if this is so true on the healing.       Oh by the way. I have a great orthopedic surgeon.

Thank you

Lisa

Lisa,

Sorry you're having problems with your TKR.  At 4 weeks most people are still n pain meds and not able to do too much.  A TKR is Major surgery with a long recovery time, and every knee is different.  I was driving 4 weeks after my LTKR but it was 7 weeks after my RTKR.

Ask your PT how he thinks you are doing, and above all be patient, hard to do, but necessary.  It takes about a year to get back fully, though you are still at the point that you will see improvement just about every week.

Good luck!

Down under the Arthritis section there is a section for TKR questions.  You will get a lot of support there.
