hideous neuralgia and no support
« on: July 02, 2007, 07:51:36 PM »
Hi there,
I injured my R knee in Oct '05 (lateral bucket handle tear) and have had 2 partial meniscectomys which have finally eased the pain. 3 weeks after discharge my L knee buckled with excrutiating pain. Originally it was assumed that I had another cartilage injury, but the MRI scan is nearly normal. However, 8 weeks down the line the pain is now horrendous. My GP has diagnosed neuralgia but failed to give me adequate pain relief. Although I have a pretty good range of movement in the knee, the pain radiates across the knee cap, into the back of the joint, and when its really bad it shoots down my leg and into my foot and toes. I can't seem to predict what is going to trigger the pain, and I am aware of constant aching and throbbing in the joint, which is aggravated by driving and walking, especially anything above a gentle walking pace. My knee grinds and cracks, and often feels like it is about to give way. The pain is really beginning to get me down and I feel that I'm not being taken seriously because I can move the joint fully. I'm seeing my OS again in 3 weeks and want to be able to put my point across ie: I'm in terrific pain and I really need to know WHAT is causing it and how to treat it. Does anyone have a similar experience and a diagnosis????

We're talking good old UK NHS !!! It takes time to get seen and you have to be grateful for the time they DO give you!! My main concern is the excrutiating pain and the numbness which is starting to creep down my leg at times. Should I be worried?? Guess I am.
