Knee feels warm?
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:59:17 PM »
Here I am at 4 weeks, and doing well.  Each PT session adds a new exercise, but still mostly strengthening and stretching.  Started some weights on my leg today.  I miss having stairs to go up and down every day--for the first 2 weeks I was in a house with 4 flights of stairs, and I think it really helped.  I am now in a one-story, so I have to go looking for stairs!
Question--except when I have iced it, my knee feels warm.  It gets even warmer after exercise (understandably), but is warm to some degree the rest of the day as well.  Not hot enough to be alarmed about, but was wondering how many others have 'hot knees'?

Yea, finally a real question (no offence to all the other posts)

Teetaa, that is the normal inflammatory process.  Normal skin color and warm okay.  Red or Blotchy Red and Hot = Not good call OS.  I am 9 weeks PO now and still have warm knee.  Hope it helps!

BTW what type of graft did you get?

Thanks, Nola.  That's what I figured, but it's always good to get input from the Geeks!  It kind of evens out when my feet are cold at night :)

I had autograft hamstring.

Mine was quite warm for 6 months - OS and PT both assured me as long as there is inflamation there will be heat - as long as your knee looks okay and is warm you are fine! It's pretty easy to be alarmed at all the strange things that go on with your knee/leg/body post ACLR!
May 2006 ruptured right ACL and tore medial meniscus
July 14 2006 allograft ACLR and meniscus repair
July 2011..reinjury - is my ACL okay??
December 2011- surgery - turned out to be a articular cartilage tear - MFX and lateral menisectomy

Its nice to have somone that had there surgery around the same time are you! I wish recovery was coming better. I just had my first PT yesterday and it didn't look to good. I only have 20 degees of ROM so I have a long long long long way to go.  How is your recovery?  I was skiing in Pennsylvania (I live in the Poconos).  How did you tear yours?

Shouldnt this be basic Einsteins law, energy doesent go away, it changes, from work to heat and movement etc. And probably yes, inflamation.

Asked my OS the same question last week (6week check up) He said that the heat is normal and would go on for a few weeks more. He also said " you should feel a knee replacement....now they're.. Hot" !!!!!!!! ;D

Wouldnt be too concearned im 11 months post op and my operated knee is still warmer than the non operated knee, especially after a work out.
And my knee is great, playing footy and squash without too many probs.
Injured whileplaying football 18/10/05
Ruptured ACL
Torn Meniscus
Impaction fracture to Tibia
Torn Muscles around my Knee.
Went to A&E told it was just an Infusion (swelling) and take painkillers. Returned to football and did more damage and finally got MRI.

I'm 4 weeks post op torn acl. donor tissue was pos tibial ligament.  recovery is going well.  back to work which is not terribly horrible but my knee starts hurting towards afternoon.  knee feels warm so i called my OS.  Waiting to hear what he has to say about that.  I don't ever want to go thru this again.
