Anyone Had an OATS Procedure and still in pain in cycles
« on: January 23, 2009, 05:43:05 AM »
I went to my doc on monday and he noticed that my knee would be fine for a few weeks and then all of a sudden it would be in full flare out mode in which the pain is intolerable. I am 10 months out of surgery and I don't know what to do, my surgeon said that I may have more surgeries but I am unsure if that means that I would get another transplant for my other side of the same knee cap or something worse! Anyone have gone through this yet?? Any one have advice for me??

I had OATS in Oct 07 LK.  It was a very slow healing process but I don't recall going backwards with the pain.  However, I stressed both knees out bad in Jan/Feb09.  I never really got swollen as much as a little puffiness and tenderness, the knee felt warm to touch.  The OS would always ask if it swelled up, I think this may be a big problem they look for but mine did not.  I went to the OS on Feb 27, 2009, with great pain.  His concern was swelling, he did not take Xray's or have me go for MRI's.  I went to another OS who first thing took an Xray and I was sent for an MRI.  The MRI showed that the OATS plug did not take.  Perhaps this is what may have happened to you.  You may want to condier another OS, there's got to be a reason for your swelling and pain, why didn't your OS take more Xray's or send you for an MRI?  MRI is the only way of knowing if the OATS failed.  I hope you get a second opinion, good luck.

Hi, Sorry for the late response. I have seen the my knee surgeon and my oats procedure worked perfectly no issues with it but they realized that it is mechanical. So i did some research on different procedures and on November 3rd I had a partial knee replacement when they put plastic all under my knee cap. I have now have issues with that since i did need the medal part to give both surfaces a fresh start which I will be getting June 1st after I go on a cruise and ruin up my knee, haha.
