Hi Casey!  I'm late in chiming in here, but wanted to add my two cents about the importance of being "patient."  I had microfracture on Oct. 18 and am still not fully recovered.  I did the NWB for six weeks, partial for 2.  Stayed out of the gym and listened and when OS told me I could go back (in January) I just thought I could do everything I could before.  I tried, it hurt, I got depressed.  Went back to OS who told me "professional athletes miss a whole season" so.....I guess for us "normal" people it's about a year for us.  I'm still in the gym doing what I can.  (no step, no squats, no lunging, no running, no jumping.  I know...what does it leave?  biking, walking, lifting, eliptical)  And I'm trying to stay positive.  Just want to encourage you to do the same. I figure if modifying my life for about a year is what I have to do to get back to "normal" long term then it will be worth it.   Good luck to you!  And take it slow!

Kristi

Hey Kristi, I too had microfracture on the 18th of Oct (large lesion on the medial femoral chondyle) and mine has basically failed. I am having worse pain now than before...
I was NWB for 7 weeks and on a cane for 3...
The new MRI shows the femur being jagged and the articular cartilage area is thinner than before surgery.
I think this procedure works well for small lesions and also for lesions not on the weight bearing spots...just my .02 cents...
Good luck!

Casey,
By "fighting words" he meant that it was something that one should take seriously -- something that your PA obviously didn't do.  As I said, it is probably nothing to worry about, but I'd want to be sure.

Thanks Missy and Kim.  I'm not so worried at this point.  My foot on my operated leg is still colder than my other one but the coloring of it looks ok when it is elevated.  It only gets a little purple when it is hanging down.  And it only goes slightly numb when I let it hang down.  I think I will just keep it elevated and do the ankle pumps and at this point just monitor it for awhile.  I'll talk with my PT on Tuesday about it.  Thanks for the info!!!

Sorry to hear yours didn't work!  That is my biggest fear.  I'm not sure of the size of my lesion, but my OS did say at my last appt that if microfracture was going to work on anybody, it would work on the type of injury that I had.  So, we shall see.  I still have pain, but have noticed that since I've "taken it easy" so to speak as he told me to at my last appt., things do seem to be improving.  I even went down the steps yesterday and sort of experimented with putting all my weight on my bad leg and bending it and it didn't seem as bad.

Read your thread below; you've really had a rough time of it!  Hang in there and good luck to you.  Keep us updated!

Hey guys,

I checked with my PT today about how when I let my foot hang down it turns purple, swells, goes numb, and is always colder than my other foot.  He looked at it and felt my calf area and checked the swelling in my knee.  He said it was due to swelling in my knee and that I am not getting as much circulation in my foot since I am not walking on it.  He said that if I had a blood clot that my leg would be really swollen and red.  I was relieved that he said everything was normal.  And he told me the same thing that Missy told me, to elevate it and do ankle pumps.
