Inflammation-treatments

As I struggle with inflammation in both knees after injuries and not have any rheumatic or other disease I am curious about different treatments.
I am allergic to all antiinflammatories.
Have you tried anything that have worked ? Are there any studies you are in with new drugs or other treatments ? I am interested in everything also treatments from what nature can give.
It is complicated to find anything that works.
Please share whatever you are trying or have tried.
I am sure many has this problem. I am tired of the swelling and the pain.

Hi Nettan,
If I miss my antiinflammatories my knees feel it too. Currently on 400 milligrams a day of Celebrex. Today someone told me about a study they participated in So. California she was involved with, but I can't remember the name. She said she would bring some paperwork next week. If I find out more I'll let you know. I was told by a chiropractor who takes a fish oil supplement by Carlson, that Omega 3 is natural antiinfammatory. Thought I heard cranberries also or maybe it's pometgranates. Sorry you are discouraged with your swelling. Is that the RSD that causes constant swelling? I have milder case of RSD but something that's constant is the seeming inflammation and stiffness. Will post when I find the name of that drug.

Nettan,
I don't know if this will help but the doc gave it to me when I had swelling and pain in my foot last year.
Pregabalin is used to relieve neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerves) that can occur in your arms, hands fingers, legs, feet, or toes if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have shingles (a painful rash that occurs after infection with herpes zoster). It is also used in combination with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in patients with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. Brand name is Lyrica.
Hope you find something that helps soon!!

Nettan,
Have you tried using Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements? I've been taking since my first surgery and I think they do help reduce the pain. My sister uses them, too. You can't take them if you have shellfish allergies, though.

Terre, that won't help as I need to get rid of the inflammation. That is my mainproblem.
For my pain I need morphine..I am that bad off..but getting rid of inflammation would reduce the swelling and also the pain.

Nettan,
I understand what you are saying. The Lyrica takes care of swelling and pain too. I used it when my foot was swelling and the pain to walk was very uncomfortable, my foot was exremely inflammed, they did not know why though. It worked like a charm. Maybe you could ask your doctor??

Did the doc just prescribe you some meds without knowing what was wrong ?!
I would never use meds without knowing why.
Lyrica is for nervpain..I have tried lots of them but they aren't meant for inflammation and haven't worked.

I am glad they worked for you.

Nettan,
He told me that it would help the inflammation I had at the time. I am a diabetic and they were trying to rule out nerve damage in my foot. It was not nerve damage and the meds helped. I only took this for 1 month.

Nettan,
Pregablin or Lyrica is only one of RSD drugs and of course the sucess in that drug is how early your RSD has been interviened with. We know yours is a severe case. However, I am not sure if it directly helps inflammation but the combination of anti-inflammatories which of course you can't take and pehaps Cymbalta(anit-depressants) together to change the perception of pain in our brains. I don't know why inflammation plagues RSD sufferers , Do you? Would be interesting to find out. I saw a clip on CNN one of the news broadcast in the US on Dr. Robert Swatzman(spelling could be wrong) on ground breaking yet controversial cases he has referred to his colleages in Germany who use induced coma to greatly arrest RSD . I'll have to see if I can dig up the clip and internet address so you can see it on the net.
Hugs to you Nettan

Moonbeam..sounds very interesting. I have everything for RSD and was too late to treat.
I was stucked with the severe pain for some years and they didn't believe me, so continued do surgery and that is not the best to do if you have untreated RSD..keeps only getting everything downwards in a spiral to the worse.
Would appriciate if you can find the clip. Thanks
Peggy, maybe you had neuropathic pain which you can get out of diabetes.

Peggy, good for you. Yeah I have hopes too.
This is really frustrating.
But I am sure there are many out here that have same problems, so sometime and somewhere we must be able find a solution.

Hey Nettan,
If you find a solution, please let us all know (I know you will nayway). I know how it is to be desperate for something to help.
Even with the strong anti-inflammatories I take, I still get very bad swelling and inflammation. Some days it drives me nuts, as you know.
I have a friends at work whose sister suffers very vadly with RSD after since breaking her arm. She's had lots of treatments, including experimental ones. I'l find out if she's had anything we don't already know about.
Take care,
Laura x
