can you do damage doing pretty much nothing!
« on: January 08, 2007, 11:21:39 AM »
was jus wondering if anyone else has hurt their knee doing almost nothing! I was playing basketball and was holding the ball above my head away from a defender when another player approached from behind and tried to pull the ball off me. i tryed to pull the ball back and as i did my knee jus twisted and went and i heard the most horrible popping and clicking! and fell to the floor! went the er and they fobbed me off sayin it was a sprain. but now it is nearly a year and my doc thinks it is a meniscus tear! jus wondering do you think that i could have sustained this type of injury from literally standing still?

I think, it's pretty safe to say that you can damage parts of your knee doing pretty much nothing. If the angle and force is right... you get an injury.  People tear their ACL's just squatting down to reach something on a low shelf... SO I would say yes, you definately could have torn your meniscus.

I couldn't believe the amount of damage I'd done to my knee considering I simply slid off my horse to the ground & landed with my knee underneath me. I was getting on him bareback & he moved away & bucked before I was secure enough to stay on. It apparently doesn't take much...Ellie

Hi

Have you given any thought to get an Orthopaedic Consultant to give you a proper diaganosis???

A knee is very precious - dont leave it, it could be serious.

Best wishes
