quick question
« on: December 04, 2006, 01:09:34 PM »
Things had been going really well since my surgery, Sunday night (last night) was by far my worst night of sleep, my two biggest toes and top of my foot are numb, that tingly feeling, and the pain did a 180 and bit hard all night.  Just curious if it is possible they hit a nerve.  Also I guess i started to wean myself of the vicodin too fast.  Any replies are greatly appreciated to let me know if this is common.  Third time on ACL and never felt this before!

Could it be your foot and toes were asleep?  Do you have a bandage on and could it be too tight?  Have you walked on it to see how it feels?  Does the tingling go away if you rub it?  Whats the color and temp of your foot and toes involved?  If your foot/toes are cold and blueish as if not getting enough oxygen, take off all bandages and try to rub/manipulate it a bit to see if the color and temp improve.  If it doesn't, call your surgeon and have it checked out.

As for the vicodin situation, if you go through withdrawal problems and need to chat, feel free to post it here on the forum.  Some of us, myself included, have had bad reactions to codeine based meds (like Vicodin), and can relate.  Anytime you come off meds, you need to do a gradual wean, not a quick cold-turkey like I did (ugh...).

Good luck!!

Just returned from the Dr today, not quite what i was expecting to hear.  Dr said my Chondral defect covers too much of an area on the femur and tibia, so for now the carticel is out of the question because it is not in a contained area.  The best next step is to recover from the ACL and then it will be an Open Wedge High Tibia Osteotomy.  I will now begin the search and rehab at the same time.

As for the tingling numb feeling it is possible he said that the skin nerve that fingers out across the front of the knee area got knicked or moved??

The trip one way to my Dr is an hour and half, so after over 6 hours my entire foot looks like a grape fruit and it will be a slow rehab according to the physical therapist.  next appointment set for Jan 2, only allowed 10% touch down and to remain in immobilizer when on crutches.

ouch...
I hope things start to look up quikly for you. I know that nerves can get damaged during surgery, I had that with one of my other knee surgeries on my left knee, and had this really strange sensation, which was painful if touched or bumped, on the outside of my knee, but it went away with time.

ELEVATION!!! It's not just a U2 song... lol you've gotta keep that leg up as much as possible to help that fluid return to the core. and TRUE Elevation is above the level of your heart... so it doesn't have to run up hill.

Goodluck
Hang in there
