I turned a corner this weekend, started hiking hills with no problems. Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona  has rocky, slippery surfaces, and a 2,000 foot elevation. I was careful to set my balance before proceeding on the slippy stuff.

This starts the beginning of my "comeback". I'll be relying on a rower, treadmill and cycling, and "amping" up with weights at 12 weeks post op. All closed chain work, probably for another few weeks.

- very excited -  ;D

Yesterday: attempted to do leg extension on my sitting room floor with a cushion under my knee.

Badminton club night for two hours in the evening.

Today I will attempt leg extensions again, with a cushion under my knee. Then I will go to badminton club night for two hours again.

My gym membership has run out.  :-(

Playing badminton is ok. I am obviously "injured" as everyone refers to me, but it is ok. I can perform and win some matches. However, the pains are sometimes really bad for a moment! I think it works because I don't have to have my leg out straight at all. It's when I approach the net toserve that people notice I limp as I walk! Strange that a player is limping around the court - but that's the norm for me.  :-(

ZG - hope you lose the limp soon, how often per day are you doing your rehab workout?

I am 6 months post op and today I did at the gym:

warm up
squats - now up to 150kg, that's way more than I could do pre-injury.
lunges
30mins cycling level 14/20.
Chest/biceps/abs work out.
3k treadmill.

getting to the gym 2-3x per week and karate twice weekly.
LEFT KNEE: ACL and medial meniscal tear Sept 05.
Arthroscopy Jan 06.
Hamstring ACLR Apr 06.

RIGHT KNEE: meniscal tear 2008. Partial meniscectomy 2008 and again 2009.

JB - rehab work-out about once a day. I am just so worn down with disappointment and absolutely no improvement no matter what I do that I just think, sod it. Once a day, and that's it.

Sorry - that was a bit depressive of me. But I was back on the badminton court this evening, but was pretty rubbish, clutching my knee and limping around... <sigh>

Zen,
Your post is timed at 12.30am.

GET SOME SLEEP GIRL ;D  ;D

Sorry to scold, I know work sometimes gets over-loaded and you've got deadlines etc and long days are sometimes unavoidable, but seriously, it'll work wonders! You've got to recharge and no amount of healthy fuel and diligent exercising can make up for the recuperation time. It's the best medicine for tired bodies and spirits.

Today I am 36 weeks and 3 days post op (8 Months and 2 days) and I will shortly be......

Rowing a Half Marathon. My second Half Marathon in 7 days.

I haven't done any ROM exercises or even weights for about 2 months.

I have completely forgotten about my knee surgery, which is great.

Good luck and happy holidays to everybody.

I walked to kitchen to my fridge, picked a sandwitch material, icecream and was exhausted. I hope i didnt overdo it  ;D
Leg extensions are said to be bad for graft, there have been many discussions in the past about this subject. Some have done it, some say those should never be done, some do it constantly. I for example started going them about 4 months post op with 25 -30 kg-s with both legs. At that point i didnt know those were bad, if i had known, i wouldnt have done those. There are plenty of other ways, but i most certainly know, how boring cycling can be , but its the best and most healthiest thing to do after the acl reconstruction.
I did some cycling, but i did this terrain type of thing, where resistance changes over time, so its kinda more interesting. Some imagination and you can picture yourself riding in mountains doing jumps etc ;D
Doing leg extensions also depends how long post op are you. I wouldnt do those if i were you.
Take care.

I am afraid that doesent matter if you extend it all the way or not. Ofcourse, its better that you dont kick your leg straight, that wouldnt be a good idea. But overally the whole consept of  leg extension seems to be a bad idea, altough i always thought that it was the PCL which gets the stress, but people here explained me it was the opposite.
Its true , i also didnt get the burning sensation from cycling, but it has something to do with the fact, that your muscles need to "wake up". When they have done it, you start feeling the burn. Altough its also true, that i also only got the burn from leg extensions. Go figure, how long post op are you? And with what weight you do that?
