Who has had a Patella Femoral replacement?

Got the date for number 13 op, its in 6 weeks time - 10th January 2007, so not too long to wait.
If all goes well, should be fit for work end of March beginning of April.

Sounds like a relatively simple procedure. I'm hoping it will turn out great for you!

Yes, I have to get going and find a spine specilaist. I have to ask around. Some days the back isn't too bad but other days it is.

In the meantime, I'm muddling through.

Here's hoping you can return to work and function well real soon. Sounds like you really like your work!

I had a PFJR done in July 05, the only thing I can say is make sure you are the perfect candidate for this procedure. I initially was going to have a TKR and they switched at the last minute to the PKR. I wish they had stuck to the original plan. I now have to have a revision done to a TKR, the grinding and popping is back as well as the exruciating pain. I saw the OS today, he said the TKR on the knee he did is doing great and I agree, he wants to do the TKR as soon as possible, but since I have been out of work for 12 of the last 18 months, I need to go back for a while to make some money.

Hi Reb,

My PFJR is stilll sore and often painful when I overdo. It was not a great answer by any means.  I hope you get your TKR and that it is the solution. I suppose I will be looking at that in the not too distant future too.

Hi everyone.  I was just wondering if everyone who had a PFJR could go through and tell me the experience they have so I can better prepare myself for my upcoming surgery.  What was pre-op like?  Was there a hospital stay, if so what do you remember about it?  When did rehab start?  How long in rehab?  Did you use a CPM machine?  Anything or any advice you can offer me would be helpful.  My surgery is June 20th.

I had pfjr June of last year on my left knee and June 5th I am getting my right knee done. I Was in the hospital for 3 days. My very first post op day I was up walking with the help of a walker and Physical therapist. I did not have a cpm machine. But I did have a drain. I honestly cannot remember how long I was in rehab.

Hey people there is a procedure out there thats called Arthrosurface Hemi-cap system. Depending on how severe the damage is they can now replace only the specific areas of damage. I had a 35mm implant on my patella and a 33mm implant on my femur right in the troclear groove. I am now two month post op and doing great. Full range of motion was around 18 days. The strength is coming around now. Full recovery is expected at six months.

Hi everyone. I'm Sarah, 23 y.o., dealing with R knee problems since age 19.
I was just told today by my OS that my three options are 1. to keep going as I am going 2. remove my patella 3. Patella femoral replacement. They got me in asap on Monday for the consult re: the PFJR.
I'm slowly sifting through this amazing site w/ all of you amazing people, to prepare myself for my appointment Monday.  I'm beyond scared but I can't keep living in pain everyday, I haven't even started to live my life yet.

What happened to your knee to start the problems with yours? Did you injure it? Wow!!! You are so young and I was told at 37, I was too young for a PFJR. Had to happen, though. I found a different surgeon who does them everyday, even on young people like yourself. Unfortunately, my knee was and still is a hot mess. Better than it was pre-PFJR just not good yet. i hope this is not off topic but i too was told my  Patella on both knees are worn out problem is i am only 31 i have had it sense 2009 when i had a scope done it was found they told me then that i would need to wait to i was 35 to get it replaced well i started getting even more pain this year so went to 3 more surgeons and one gave me steroid shots in knees with no effect and now they saying the pain may be coming from some where else so now want me to see a pain specialist to see where the pain is yet i no its my knee caps is it possible the steroid shots simply didn't work i am sick of being pushed from one doctor to another if any one has any ideas i would be very great full i cant work due to this and spend alot of time in bed due to the pain
