Fell on my Total Knee Replacement-Should I have an xray?
« on: May 28, 2005, 10:22:22 AM »
:-[ This morning I took a bad fall in a slopped parking lot. I twisted my right ankle and fell on my left knee, etc. My left knee is the TKR. It is swollen and a little bit of "road rash". So far the inside does not hurt, and seems stable, although it is making noises it has not made before. I had the TKR 6 years ago. Is it possible to have damage to the prothesis but actually hurt? Should I get this xray'd?

faith4me2...Sorry you had such a nasty fall!  I would definitely have your knee x-rayed in case something is damaged or broken...if nothing else, it will give you piece of mind.

By the way, I can't imagine how much that must have hurt...I have PKRs and even kneeling on them hurts.  My biggest fear is falling directly on one! ...Kath

Hello faith4me2 ,

If  you are in a lot of pain, then I would go to the ER and get an Xray.  If not, then I would follow up with your OS right away and let him chek it out and make sure it's alright.  So to answer your question, YES.  HOw soon depends on how much pain you are having.

That's the thing, there isn't much pain at all. Just alot of bruising and some slushy swelling. Of course the left side of my TKR is totally numb since the surgery, but the right side has some tenderness is all. It's  mostly the weird sounds the knee is making for the first time.
