I love the NHS
« on: December 03, 2004, 01:40:00 PM »
Hi everbody.
In brief the problem i have, *3 op's on my left knee over the last 2 years to repair and remove medial meniscus.
Recently i've been getting more and more pissed off with the whole business.  My knee really should have been fixed first time round and i definatley should have been surfing again about 10 months ago. After the thrid op is was told that they had removed the out meniscus and that i should have no problems. This was last October (03)!! I did feel that during the summer i had improved but since i have had a constant aching pain mixed with sharp pains when awquardly move(by accident). I saw a consaltant 6 weeks ago who told me that i would have an MRI scan done within 3-4 months. I have now been told that it will be more like 12 months and my physio will not see me until i've had it done. I'm taking a whole load of pain killers which i don't like.
I have now got myself onto a cancelation list and am my GP is talking to the consultant again to try and speed things up. In the mean time i am swimming/static cycling and just doing leg raises(when the knee is not hurting)
Anyway just rambling on here the advise/help i would like is 1; what do you think could be wrong with my knee so that i have soom amo to go back with.
2; What exercises are best and is it good for the knee is it is hurting.

Many thanks
Charlie. >:(
PS; I know that things could be allot worse i just want to go surfing !

Hey there - I have had the same problem as yourself, 2 scopes to sort out meniscus and still pain (I never had a period of improvement however!!) I am lucky as I have private health insurance, but would you consider trying to get the money up for a private MRI - Im not sure how much they are in the UK but in Ireland they cost €360..well worth it if you ask me.  Anywho - In the end I've had a steroid injection 2 weeks ago and its  made a huge improvement, meaning that majority of problem was caused by inflmmation after ops. Hope this helps -

Good luck - Claire.

Thanks Claire
Unfortunatley i don't have the money to fork up to have the scan done privatley, well at least not this side of Xmas. It is something i will look into however.
I'm just so fed up of not being to do anything that i enjoy and just having to put up with the contant twinging.
Take care of yourself
Cheers
Charlie

Charlie

Couldn't agree more with you. I'm 6 months post op ACL and meniscus (got infected post-op), and leg's still a twig. All I want to do is get back in the water.

Hope yours is doing better.
