tibial tubercleplasty
« on: March 06, 2005, 03:34:39 AM »
Hi, i am new here and am so lost. I am having surgery on April 20th and am very nervous. I have had both of my knees scoped, and a proximal realignment of the right knee that did no good. I have chrondomillaca severly also. I am having the tibial tubercleplasty on my right knee and i know very little about this.  If anyone has any information that they could share with me i would so appreciate it.  I have searched for info but have not been able to find much.  Your kindess and input is so needed as i go into this.

The Dr tried to explain alittle about what is involved but i am still lost. I would like to know, what the procedure involves, the recovery time that maybe expected and the pain level.  Lots of questions, lol, sorry about that.  Thank you again for any help you can give, Blessings, laurie

Laurie,

Welcome to the board, sorry about your knee problems though.  I think this tibial tubercleplasty procedure and a ttt surgery are the same, a distal realignment.  Here are some articles that I found:

http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/html/steps/step_05_patella/realignment03.html
http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/html/dictionary/Elmslie_Trillat.html

Hope this helps you some.

Kneeguru has an Academy section with a course on Patella problems from A to Z. You might want to check it out. Also I have an entire section dedicated to patella surgery in my book What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You about Knee Pain and Surgery (and it sounds like there's a great deal he hasn't told you!), and on my website www.kneeHipPain.com there's a surgical animation that demonstrates a tibial tuberosity transfer.
Hope that helps!
