Varus osteotomy

A varus osteotomy is a surgical procedure where the bone is cut and re-angled, to correct a valgus (knock-knee) deformity.

That is, where there is a knock-knee (generally associated with arthritis of the lateral compartment), this procedure may be performed to relieve the pressure on the damaged side of the knee.

The surgeon may reshape in this way either the femur (femoral varus osteotomy) or the tibia (tibial varus osteotomy).
