Tibial plateau fracture
A tibial plateau fracture is a bone break through the flat joint surface of the tibia bone, at the region where it articulates with the rounded end of the femur bone.
This is an important fracture. It is often missed at first visit to the doctor or emergency department.
If there is a large fragment which is ‘depressed’ (forced out of line with the rest of the joint), the surgeon may opt to elevate this fragment and secure it to the main body of the tibial plateau with screws.
Rehabilitation can be challenging.
