Ligament instability

This keynote explores issues related to ligament instability of the knee.

The unstable patella

In this keynote, we will try and explain the mechanisms behind recurrent subluxation and dislocation of the patella. The patella is a very vulnerable structure, affected by many different anatomical and biomechanical factors - some remote from the patella itself. By getting to grips with the subtleties of patellar mechanics, patients will understand the importance of finding a patellar expert before submitting themselves to surgical correction.

Rotational limb deformity affecting the knee

The knee joint, and especially the patella (kneecap), is frequently symptomatic when the mechanics of the lower limb is affected by rotational deformity of the femur and tibia bones. This keynote is being developed and will pad out over the next week or so.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is an important condition for patients to understand, despite the fact that it is very uncommon. In this keynote we are building the content for you in chapters that may be edited from time to time, so the content will improve each time you dip in. If you are expert in the condition, please contact the KNEEguru and you can help to work on the notes.

Articular Cartilage Repair

Articular cartilage repair includes a number of surgical procedures whose objective is to improve or restore damaged joint cartilage surfaces. This is an area of knee surgery where the effectiveness of techniques is still being established, but it does offer to patients with joint surface damage the possibility of delaying knee replacement or preventing it altogether.

To understand the issues of cartilage repair, it is important that you first learn just a little bit about what makes joint cartilage special, and why joint cartilage has trouble repairing itself.
