Privacy Policy

The KNEEguru website follows a Privacy Policy. A privacy policy is a statement of how we handle information relating to the people who interact with the KNEEguru website. We disclose these details to demonstrate our commitment to you although, depending on how you use the site, the various elements may not be wholly applicable to you.

The KNEEguru website's policy on 'cookies'

'Cookies' are small bits of information that we place in your computer's browser or temporarily in your computer's memory to store your user names, passwords and other preferences, so that you are recognised when you revisit. We also use cookies to understand site usage and to improve the content and offerings on our sites.

Cookies help us to be more efficient. We can learn about what content is important to you and what is not. We can revise or remove web pages that are not of interest and focus our energies on content you want.

A cookie is like an identification card. It is unique to your computer and can only be read by the server that gave it to you. Although you may set your web brower to refuse cookies, you may find that some parts of the site will not function properly after you have refused cookies - for example this will prevent your active participation on the Bulletin Board and Information Hub as your password will not work.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies. If you want to control which cookies you accept, you can configure your browser to accept all cookies or to alert you every time a cookie is offered by a website's server. You can set your browser option so that you will not receive cookies and you can also delete existing cookies from your browser. Please be aware that if you do not configure your browser you will accept cookies provided by this website.

Session cookies

Many of the cookies we use are session cookies. Session cookies last only for the duration of your visit and are deleted when you close your browser. These facilitate various tasks such as allowing a website to identify that a user of a particular device is navigating from page to page, supporting website security or basic functionality.

Persistent cookies

We also use persistent cookies. They last beyond your session and after you’ve closed your browser. We use them to ensure you have a better experience when you return to the site. Persistent cookies remain on your computer until you choose to remove them.

YouTube Cookies

Where videos from YouTube are displayed on our website, cookies are set by YouTube to allow you to watch, like and share these videos. For more information visit their own privacy policy.

Advertising cookies

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

In particular, Google, our main third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the KNEEguru site. Google's use of the 'DART' cookie enables it to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.

Social Network Cookies

Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn buttons read and set their own cookies to enhance social sharing. For more information see:

Privacy policy regarding donations to the KNEEguru company (ftmg Associates Ltd)

Credit card payments are processed through PayPal and your credit card information is not accessible to the KNEEguru or ftmg Associates Ltd. PayPal does, however, give us your name and email details, which we may use to thank you for a donation or communicate with your if there are any problems with the donation.

Bulletin Board Registration Information

Any and everyone accessing the bulletin board can read a post and use its content. In order to post messages on the bulletin you are required to register and to choose a username and password. The only personal information we ask for upon registration is your email address. An email is sent to this address after you have initiated the registration process, and registration is only complete once you have verified receipt of the email.

Why do we need email verification?

We need this email verification to -

  • ensure that you are a genuine user
  • so that we can send you a link to reset your password if you have forgotten it
  • to help troubleshoot any problems you are having with registration

Amending bulletin board posts

Bulletin board members are allowed to modify or erase their own posts, but only moderators may change all posts.

Bulletin Board Traffic Information

General information is gathered about the visitors to this site to help us identify where our users are coming from, and what they were interested in. This helps us continually improve the content and navigation.

Information Hub Registration Information

The Information Hub is linked to the bulletin board registration, so that bulletin board members may login to the information hub to create and maintain their own blogs there.
