Most collateral ligament injuries will heal themselves with rest and bracing. Like all soft tissue injuries of the knee, the first line of management immediately after the injury is the 'RICE' regime:
Surgery, if indicated, is usually uncomplicated (stitches or staples), unless other important ligaments (like the cruciates) are damaged at the same time. |
