Cruciate - intro
|
The cruciate ligaments (which means the 'crossed-over' ligaments) are often dubbed the 'crucial' ligaments because they are so important in maintaining knee stability. A tear of a cruciate ligament is a major injury. Repair of the cruciate ligament is specialist surgery. It is advisable to locate an experienced cruciate ligament surgeon. [The KNEEguru website maintains a list of knee surgeons around the world.] 1:3000 people in the USA each year will have a cruciate injury (100,000 cruciate injuries a year in USA alone!) Cost per repair in the USA is $11,500 (if all were surgically repaired it would cost the USA one billion dollars a year!) Weird but true! Some people are born without cruciate ligaments. |
