Although his practice involves the full spectrum of knee disorders, he has a particular interest in lower limb reconstruction using external fixators when a limb has become shortened or deformed from unhealed or badly-healed fractures or bone infection. Dr El Shazly lectures widely and serves on the executive committee of The Knee Foundation, an educational charitable trust. He is currently working on his doctorate thesis on radiological, histological and biochemical characteristics of non-union.
