Ruptured quadriceps tendon

hi im a 56 year old woman, i had a fall on the 20 may 2010 thanks to a pothole. My ankle twisted one way and my knee the other- i heard a loud pop followed by a severe burning pain in my right knee which started swelling immediately. I was taken to A&E and given a cricket splint and crutches as no break showed on xray. I had to go back after 1 week to the fracture clinic. I was given an ultra sound and the bad news which was my quadricep tendon had tottally separated from my knee cap. I was booked into hospital and had the operation to repair the tendons on 29th May they reattached the tendons by drilling holes in my kneecap and reattaching, closing the wound with 14 staples. Over the following days/nights morphine helped the pain but made me sick and dizzy so i got by on paracetamal and ibrophen tablets. Released from hospital 4 days later with the splint and crutches.

14 days later had the staples removed and fitted with a new splint, to be worn for a further 4 weeks before seeing the physio over the following 6-8 weeks, turning the dial 30/60/90 degrees - that starts next week - has anyone had simular treatment? if so I would really be interested in your progress. how long before back to work? how long before driving etc and any tips would be gratefully received.
btw. I was given a device called a leg lifter- god knows how people manage to move their leg without one of these it really helps.
