The problem of patella baja

Patella baja is the condition where the kneecap is positioned in an abnormally low position. This is usually a consequence of inflammation and scarring within the front of the kneejoint and behind the patellar tendon - a condition known as 'arthrofibrosis'.

Patella baja is also called patella infera.

Patella baja may lead to considerable pain, as the patella impinges against the tibia when the knee bends - and arthritic changes can occur at the back of the patella.
