KNEEguru Information Hub - a new chapter in the KNEEguru story
I decided to start this new section of the KNEEguru website because I could see that something more was needed to support the core bulletin board members in their efforts to pass their knowledge and experience onto others.
There is so much information in the bulletin board now. But that information has become scattered and it becomes ever more difficult to remember the position of a great conversation or snippet of information. Also the main site has built more and more content and the bulletin board users are constantly having to point new readers to the various articles in various places around the site.
So I looked around for an application that could help them to build and maintain content pages that were easy to locate - pages that could hold the links to their favourite reference material and which could be safeguarded in a private space of their own but still available for others to read. Eventually I stumbled across this content-management programme - 'Drupal' - that manages the content in neat ways and also allows 'social networking' where people with common interests can collaborate on projects. So it is a kind of MySpace/Facebook but with the difference that it remains 'knee' focused.
Already some interesting concepts are appearing - like blogging about the difficulties of finding accommodation at some of the towns where there are key clinics, and offering ideas and contact details of good places to stay. Sure, that can be done in the bulletin board, but because the Information Hub is a content management system, all one has to do is to put the town or clinic as one of the keywords and it is easy to find all the posts related to that topic.
