Fibula

knee bones

The fibula is a long narrow bone to the outer side of the tibia (shinbone). The adjective is 'fibular'.

The fibula does not form part of the knee joint articulation, but it does serve as an attachment for a number of muscles and tendons.
It is always useful to look for the fibula on X-rays as it tells one whether one is looking at a right knee or a left one.
