Muscle stimulation
Muscle stimulation is a therapeutic modality that physiotherapists can use to help strengthen the muscles around the knee.
It is not unsual following injury, and especially after knee operations, that some of your leg muscles are a bit wary of contracting in case they cause you pain. Sometimes a small battery powered machine called a muscle stimulation machine can be used to help activate those muscles that are important for your knee stability. In the picture below the vastus medialis oblique (VMO) muscle of the quadriceps is being stimulated.
