Meniscal degeneration is the breakdown in the internal structure of the meniscus, the shock absorber of the knee.

Consequences of meniscus degeneration

Once the internal structure of the meniscus breaks down, it becomes progressively more incompetent at deflecting the forces going through the joint, and joint cartilage breakdown can be added to the problem.
