General practitioner

A General Practitioner (GP) is the term used by many English speaking countries for the Primary Care Physician (PCP) or Family Doctor.

General Practitioners vary greatly in the amount they know about the knee. In general a doctor does not study knee disorders in depth at medical school, yet knees are commonly problematic and knee complaints are frequently referred to the GP. He/she has to rely largely on post-graduate courses or personal study to become really knowledgeable in this subject.

The same is often true in the ER (Casualty Department).
